Fatal Fever: Tracking Down Typhoid Mary – A Book That You Should Never Miss Out On

Fatal Fever: Tracking Down Typhoid Mary is a book by Gail Jarrow. It is based on a true story that took place in the united states during 1904, The typhoid Fever. This resulted in huge casualties and people were uncertain about the disease, they didn’t know where it came from and how it started leaving them terrified while sank in confusion. Until a germ detector stood out and was ready to finally put an end to this entire situation. The theme of this book is that the author constantly tells us to be aware of self sanitation as the more we are careful of the less probability we will be exposed to diseases just like the typhoid outbreak.

One reason why this book would be a good choice is that 1)it conveys about the idea of sanitation and diseases which are still huge concerns nowadays, you may also realise this is very similar to the COVID-19 situation we’re experiencing today. 2)This book also inspires individuals showing people who has the courage and sacrifices themselves in fighting the disease. I believe this particular event may have inspired other doctors in society.

One thing that I have learnt throughout this unit is to explore and identifying central idea, theme and issues when reading a book while before I didn’t assume it was going to be so complicated.

Do boxer deserve a bad rap?

Despite the boxers having defended china, preventing the spreading influence of Christianity to be part of the country, they were still unjustified to commence the boxer rebellion. The actions they did during the war were substantially wrong against moral standards in society.
First off, As natural disasters such as drought and flooding struck China that has impacted society. According to Jeremiah, the tour guide stated that “The Boxers were angry and blamed the churches for causing droughts in Shandong where they burned churches, hunted and slaughtered Christian missionaries wherever they went.” This shows the hate the boxers had against Christianity, and the action they took was morally unreasonable. Moreover, it was mentioned that “They destroyed the railway and telegraph lines,” which created many communication barriers for the messaging outside of china, leading to the construction of post offices set up and maintained by foreigners in the 1900th.
According to Jeremiah, there were also records of “Boxers planting bombs under and blowing up partials of the french legation wall,” as they desired to disrupt their society, which made the french no choice but to retreat and refuge to the British legation. Belgian legation was later plundered and set on fire resulting in deaths; these pieces of evidence have clearly shown their cruel instincts against Christianity and left no mercy whoever they’ve confronted. As a consequence of the war that the boxers have set off, Beijing and Tianjin were pillaged and burned. as a result, the cause of the brutal killings by boxers reflects why they should very deserve a bad reputation.

The Aged Mother CERER essay

“The ages mother” CERER essay
There are always complaints that elders are slow and unwise, however, it is untenable as people often get smarter and smarter as they age as well as they possess life experiences that youngsters don’t have. Elders are more certain to have the purpose of giving out wisdom and advice that assists them through barriers.
The main idea in the story was about a cruel leader giving orders that elders were sent to a mountain called Obatsumaya which was also known as the “abandoning of the ages” and was left to die. The only exception left was a mother and son, loving each other and with the accompaniment, the mother eventually figured out the way of surviving the disaster.
The big idea that presented through the story was that elders/ parents are contributive and selfless in some situations and should always be loved regardless of what.
In the story” The aged mother” by Matsuo Basho where the author believes that elders often have the purpose of providing wisdom and advice for youngsters to bypass a barrier instead of deemed uncontributive. An example that expresses the theme was “Her son did not know the paths in the mountain and his return might be dangerous, so she stretched forth her hand and snapping the twigs from brushes as they passed. She quietly dropped a handful twigs for every few steps on the way as they climbed, the narrow path behind them was dotted with frequent intervals with tiny piles of twigs.”(line 28-31 Matsuo)This was the moment where her son was struggling about the mountain’s paths as it would be perilous if a wrong option had been made. Therefore, it was stated in the following that her elderly mother was willing to explore ahead of him through the narrow path. As the story continues, the mother further gives out instructions for her son guiding through obstacles. Another example was “Let not thine eyes be blinded, my son.” She said. “The mountain road is full of dangers. LOOK carefully and follow the path which holds the piles of twigs. They will guide you to the familiar path farther down.” (Line 37-40 Matsuo)
During this part of the story where her mother kindly gave out wisdom and advice while guided his son through the mountain road as well as teaching him abilities and tricks which he could use when he confronts another mountainous area.
In Conclusion, although there are often complains about elders however, they can sometimes be wiser than any youngsters and these advices given by them was accumulated in the long course of their lives.

The Last Kiss

In the story “The last kiss” by ralph fletcher where it is about an eight-year-old child who has been blessed with before bed kisses and hugs until one day when the protagonist’s parents stopped suddenly, developing an external conflict between. For example, in the story which stated that the protagonists have tried several times asking for kisses instead, the antagonist only replied with a smile saying “good night” as well as in my found poem. I circled in my poem was “my father, glanced up, knew I was there, trying to be patient. Last, giving me a half-smile” indicating that the antagonist could’ve given a kiss instead, he replaced it with a half-smile, I know this is an external as it is clearly a conflict on the outside between the protagonist and antagonist the instead of him struggling inside his own mind. The graphic design that I put in my poem was an icon of a kiss as I consider it to be the best to represent the theme.

Product design (reflection)

1. Skills that I’ve developed and gained during the making process was actually learning how to design and create unique inventions as well as taking my thinking skills and techniques to another level(if that made sense).
2. One piece of advice that I would give to a future student while making this type of project is never to be hesitant to seek and explore new ideas because I personally assume that is the only way for us to develop.
3. If I remade my whole invention, I would change all the designs and include more details, I would try other different things in order to make my invention more intricate, I could combine other mediums together as well while creating the design instead of only cardboard.
4. Overall I don’t think I’ve achieved much in this invention because I know that there could be substantially more improvements and advancements while designing, I also didn’t seek for new things this time, therefore, I don’t think my project is good enough, however, I would try my best to make a more satisfying invention.
