Ths short story ‘Fish Cheeks‘ is written by an American Chinese Girl called Amy Tan. In the story, the author talks about how Amy is ashamed of her family’s culture because she wants to be more “American”. When Amy’s parents invite the ministers family over for dinner the protagonist (Amy) coincidentally has a crush on the minister’s son named Robert. My found poem is inspired by this short story. For my found poem I took some words and sentences that are part of the internal conflict in the short story ‘Fish Cheeks’ written by Amy Tan, and some sentences that show external conflict. I knew what words/sentences were internal conflict because they were all part of her thoughts that she was thinking during the events that occurred over the dinner. I used a picture of Chinese steamed fish on my found poem to connect it with the dinner in ‘Fish Cheeks’. I chose to use red paper for my found poem because red is one of the colours of Christmas
