Develop & Plan
Ideation:
Three designs that fulfil the success criteria the best:
- tilted triangle – meets most of the success criteria (e.g. looks cool and unique, enough airflow etc.)
- Chinese rooftop – meets most of the success criteria (e.g. very spacious, can hold up to 8 people etc.)
- geometrical squares – meets most of the success criteria (e.g. can hold more than 8 people, good lighting yet still has some shade, open space etc.)

Create and Improve
Questions:
- If you were to go outside during lunch or a break, which one of these pavilions would you go sit in?
- Why did you choose this pavilion over the others?
- Is there anything you would change about this pavilion?
- Which one of these pavilions is the most aesthetically pleasing and why?
- Do you think other high schoolers would sit in this pavilion during lunch/break?
Responses:
Sienna:
- The third one.
- I like the design.
- I would make the roof higher and maybe get rid of the second level because it may be too tall when placed outside.
- I like the third design because of its colouring. It is also unique compared to the others.
- Yes.
Truman:
- number 3
- Because it looks open so I can watch stuff happening around me while also being protected from the sun
- I might change the wall dimensions depending on the space that the pavilion is going to be in.
- possibly the second one.
- yes.
Plan:
I’m going to combine designs 2 and 3 to give the pavilion a little more shade especially when it’s a sunny summer/spring/autumn day and people are sitting on the top of the pavilion.
Materials:
- awning material (laminated vinyl)
- light brown wood
- beige paint
- light brown paint
