He was a well known general during the 19th century, his name was Ernesto Fernández. He lived through the Cuban revolution and all the consequential moments throughout this time period. Through his journal, he describes some important graphic scenes that occurred. This is the story of the Cuban revolution from Ernesto’s perspective.
Through the years of corruption, dispute, and social injustice, Cubans demanded justice for their country. Through the course of the revolution, the power transferred from Fulgencio Batista to Fidel Castro. A group of rebels knowns as the M-26-7 were lead by Fidel Castro. They took over the government and overthrew Fulgencio Batista. Though this was a major change to the country, there were many other concepts that had remained the same. Eventually, Castro started to act more and more like Batista, he began to arrest and execute anyone who opposed his new way of governing. Thousands of people fled Cuba out of the fear of getting executed. Under the influence of the new government, many new ideas were introduced and established. Like the Agrarian Law Reform, universal healthcare, and they even raised the literacy rate to nearly 100%. Regardless of the changes and continuities that took place, the Cuban revolution was worth it because of the positive effects of the revolution.
