Percy Jackson response

“Percy Jackson and the lightning thief” by Rick Riordan, it is mainly about the main protagonist. Percy and how the choices he makes leads him into different paths within the story. His problems are solved by engaging in positive relationships. And additionally, managing emotions before speaking. Since positive relationships help people to be more positive and it is mentally healthy for people to have at least one people that are trustworthy to believe in. Also managing emotions which will help people think before acting.

Firstly, Percy having positive relationships will help him which will lead to a different path in the story, since in the book page 3 when Percy was about to hit Nancy who was bullying Grover who was his best friend “Grover tried to calm me down.” Percy should get involved in a positive relationship because in the article “Why Personal Relationships Are Important.” Written by University of Minnesota on page 28 it states that “The support offered by a caring friend can provide a buffer against the effects of stress. In a study of over 100 people, researchers found that people who completed a stressful task experienced a faster recovery when they were reminded of people with whom they had strong relationships.” This proves that Percy having a positive relationship with Grover helps him know and control his temper without stressing out. If a teacher or an adult who was not related to Percy, then Percy would have to deal with other problems. But since Grover is his best friend and one of the most reliable persons for Percy. When Grover tried to calm Percy down Percy was able to control his temper without any more major problems. This means that positive relationships make people different and control their temper.

Secondly, Percy managing emotions will help him choose a better choice because in the book on page 32~33 Percy talks about how he loves his mom and he says, “My mother can make me feel good just by walking into the room.” Then if you draw your attention to the article “Why Personal Relationships Are Important” It states on Page 28~29 “University of Chicago researchers who studied in a group of 299 adults over five years found that loneliness could predict higher blood-pressure even years later, indicating that the effects of isolation have long-lasting consequences.” This tells us that this mother also one of his most reliable people makes him warm or welcomed always. And Percy having in minded about his mother and how she will be embarrassed or sad about the fact that he is not a perfect person or is different from others. His mind will make Percy most of the time think or manage his emotions. For example, on the book page, 39~40 when Percy got back home from school since he got expelled then when Percy was talking to his mom and Percy disturbed Gabe in his poker game and Gabe asked for seven-layer dip Gabe says, “Maybe if you hurry with that seven-layer dip … And maybe if the kid apologizes for interrupting my poker game.” Then Percy’s was arguing with Gabe then Percy looked at his mom then he controlled his temper. Then his mom says, “Thank you, Percy,” my mom said. “Once we get to Montauk, we’ll talk more about… whatever you’ve forgotten to tell me, okay?” This proves that Not only he thinks about his mom and controls his mom, but he controls his temper by himself. This also proves that later on, he is capable of controlling his temper alone without anyone telling him. This means that managing emotions like thinking before speaking will help Percy.

Through these analyzing it proves that Percy could be simply improved or improve his choices by simply getting involved in a relationship, therefore, this will, of course, lead him to a different path in his life. Also, if Percy tries or manages emotions just simply by think about him as he did in the situation with Gabe on Page 39~40. And managing emotion is equally important as how he has to get involved in positive relationships.
