Graphic design consists of many factors, and the elements and principles make up the various pieces of artwork we see within graphic design. Other than composing an art piece, elements and principles enhance and guide one to manage to explore various different forms of expression, playing a crucial role in design in general.

For the current design task, students are assigned a specific element/principle and will be attempting to express, and present their understanding of it through a piece of artwork designed to clearly explain the element/principle with brief descriptions.

To explain my design principle: Negative Space, I struggled with showing the principle without using specific objects that are clearly identified, some of my earlier attempts are shown below.

After feedback and discussion, I settled on focusing on the 3rd and 4th pieces, creating revisions of them on Affinity, as they were said to be more abstract, yet interesting in color and spacing, showing fusion of different aspects into one.

With final revisions made, clarity and design of the 2nd piece seemed to fit for the design principle: Negative Space more than the 1st, and feedback supported this choice. Though the first choice was visually pleasing, it could be mistaken as Pattern, and was overall too vague to discern it as Negative Space.
