The main character in Evan Hunter’s short story entitled “On the Sidewalk Bleeding” initially believes that someone will save him, but later understands that nobody wanted to get involved with THE ROYALS including himself. His changing understanding is revealed through the use of  Hyperbole when fighting to tore his jacket off, another hyperbole on how he hungered for Laura’s mouth, and a methaphor when he tried to reach for the couple when he made a low animal grunt of pain (specific techniques).
