Independent Reading Reflection -Zero

Zero is a non-fiction book written by mathematician Charles Seife. It elaborates on the topic of the mysterious number 0, and talks about its history as well as its uses in modern science (math is a tool for science). I have completed this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in starting to read about mathematics and physics. Seife uses specific, scientific language and introduces the topic in chronological order. Seife also branched out from pure mathematics to physics and astronomy, explaining how even though 0 is an absurd concept, it is also a tool to unlocking the secrets of the universe. Through this book, Seife potentially aim to communicate a general understanding of a normally ignored or disliked number whilst expounding on how ” the universe begins and ends with zero”(215).

Independent Reading Reflection- Cat Among the Pigeons

Written by Agatha Christie, Cat Among the Pigeons is a detective story in the Hercule Poirot collection. The novel is set in England, at Meadowbank. A death of the faculty sets off a series of events that eventually leads to Princess Shaista, a pupil at Meadowbank and cousin of the late Prince Ali of Ramat. Along with Jennifer, Hercule Poirot uncovers the mystery of the revolt in Ramat as well as the missing, priceless jewels. My favourite part of the novel is the part when Jennifer discovers the jewels hidden in the tennis racket and the continuous pushing of her door. In this section, the author uses minimalistic but descriptive language to convey a sense of nervousness and fear. I would recommend this book because it is interesting and filled with vivid, description and word choices.

SWOT Analysis

By increasing the time that I read at home, I would like to improve my word choice and sentence structure.
