Pavilion Design

Definition | pavilion: A temporary building or tent which is used for public entertainment or exhibitions and is often large with a lot of space and light.

Pavilion Objective

  • Resting place

  • Outdoor/open
  • Fun
  • Inspirational

  • Flexibility

After the brainstorming and introduction, we first started off the pavilion unit by playing around with paper and trying to create something that has a unique style that people can utilize for some sort of entertainment.

Some of the images aren’t loading, if you see this message then it probably still doesn’t work.

Officially starting the unit, we started writing down inspirations from other designs. In the beginning, I began by doing simple sketches and was pretty confused about what a pavilion was, which took a small amount of time that we were given to work on this design project.

^ I started this design project by planning on diving deeper into creating a bridge. However, I decided to revamp the design later because it was too simple and non-utilizable for daily use.

^ After many failed attempts at sketching, I created this relatively simple layout of a pavilion that resembled a little hut with waves to be its cover.

^ The sketch above was going to be the finishing design for the pavilion. However, once we went on to making the prototypes, I realized that It was too unstable only with one support beam/circle. If this Pavillion were going to be built on the campus of ISB, it would need more stability considering how big it is. [Currently, there are nonexisting names.]

^ So, after finishing the prototype, I went back to simple sketching and finalized the final design but only this time with two support beams/circles.

SIMPLE REFLECTION

My pavilion design, compared to others, is quite simple, with only the waves being unique. I achieved the goal of making it simple and designing it to have more flexibility which was the original focus of this design. It could be used as a host for some ISB community-building events, or it could just simply be a resting place where anyone is allowed to stay.

  1. Hi Lucas,
Your concept is very good and you have presented it clearly. You have shown most of your design process, although it would be good to see more brainstorming and feedback in the future.
