Mental Healthy PE Assessment: Option 2
PART A
I think that my healthy habits never cause me to leave the green zone. When I am in the green zone, I feel good about myself, I feel enthusiastic, cheerful, and optimistic about everything. I’m always trying to brighten up people’s days by helping them with little things, or even just smiling at them, or saying hi in the hallways.
I don’t tend to use tech that much, since I have other activities that occupy my time, and make me feel good. I always keep my phone on do not disturb, that way I’m not tempted to check my phone every time it buzzes. I know for some people, they check their phone more often since they can’t hear when someone messages them, but for me, it has been a really good strategy for staying off my phone during the day and not being bothered by it during the night.
PART B
Getting your first computer or phone can be pretty exciting, you get to talk to your friends, you get to play games, listen to music whenever you want, but spending all you free time on your device isn’t a good thing.
You need to be mindful that you aren’t spending too much time staring at your screen gaming, going on Instagram, wechat, and any other app you may use on your device. Spending too much time staring at a screen is bad for your mental health. Although social media provides a connection between people and gives an opportunity to strengthen love and friendship, it is addictive and can lower one’s self esteem. The addiction comes down to FOMO, or fear-of-missing-out, a natural social human behavior. Not being logged onto your social media can make you feel left out. Social media can lower one’s self esteem because you see so many idealistic versions of other people’s lives and the whole image of having the perfect body, and looking a certain way is clearly projected on social media, therefore it can really bring down someone’s self-esteem if they don’t feel like they meet that standard, or if other’s comment negative things about them not looking a certain way. Learning to control your use of wechat, games, Instagram, or any other platform can ensure you stay healthy. There are many ways to make sure you don’t go overboard with the time you spend. You can set a screen time. Many people find screen time annoying because their parents set it for them. One way to help ensure your mental health stays in the green zone is to set a screen time for yourself or agree with your parents how much time spent on your device is ideal for student your age.
Some good tech habits of staying in the green zone of mental health is to ensure you have a healthy screen time. You also shouldn’t let other’s get to you. You are who you are and the image of being “perfect” shouldn’t change you. You can also turn off your phone notifications, so you aren’t checking your phone every time someone texts, but this method may not work for you since it’ll only make it more tempting for some others. Another thing you can do is to keep your phone and/or computer in a different room at night. You won’t be checking it when you are supposed to be resting, therefore you can still get the right amount of sleep and maintain your healthy status.
If you start to feel like you’re entering the yellow or orange zone, take a minute to think. What’s causing you to feel this way? By talking to someone you trust, they may be able to help you improve your mental health. By keeping your problems to yourself can really affect your mental health and may make it worse. Talking to someone like a trusted adult or a counselor can allow you to let out the emotions and think of different ways to help you get back to the green zone. You can also try and spend some time without your device. Have some time to yourself doing mindfulness, or some activity that helps you calm down and reset. It’ll feel good to have some you time and relax and just think about what makes you happy and feel good in life. This will bring you back into the green zone because you will realize all the good things in your life, and everything that makes you happy. If you ever feel your mental health is entering the yellow or orange zone because of your self-esteem being lowered, remind yourself that you are perfect just the way you are, and nobody can change that. Everyone’s special in their own way.
