What is the role of elements and principles in graphic design?
Design elements and principles are the components that make up bigger compositions in graphic design. The design principles are composed of the design elements, and using the design principles, designers can create something that communicates the necessary information while still maintaining visual interest.
What is this design task all about?
This design task was to create a poster explaining one of the elements/principles in a simple way that gets the point across but still is visually appealing.
Why did you do your illustration this way?
I did my illustration this way because I wanted the audience to recognise the shape and see the missing piece while still making it look exciting and aesthetically pleasing.
Examples of some design ideas & how I decided on my final illustration:
1.
For this design, my partner thought it was one of the designs that were the most interesting and aesthetic, and it still maintains the idea of cropping. I developed this one on Affinity as well, using the feedback I added a light grey background colour. Personally, I chose not to develop this idea because the overlap of the shapes and the cutoffs may not express the idea of cropping as clearly as my final illustration.
2.
This is the second design that my partner thought was most aesthetically pleasing, but the communication isn’t as clear as some of the other ones, since it does feel somewhat like a border.
3.
From the feedback, this design showed the clearest communication. I developed it on Affinity and changed the background colour to yellow since my partner from the feedback process suggested there to be a light background colour that is something other than white or a neutral colour. I chose this design to be the final one because I wanted the communication to be clear but I do think the colour adds the visual component to it.
