Reading Reflection #1

So far this school year, I have read:

  1. It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover
  2. Red, White & Royal Blue – Casey McQuiston
  3. The Silent Patient – Alex Michaelides
  4. We Were Liars – E. Lockhart

I am currently reading Gone Girl, which is a crime thriller written by Gillian Flynn. It follows Nick Dunne in his journey to find his wife, Amy, who has gone missing, while simultaneously exploring Amy’s diary entries leading up to the event, slowly revealing more and more about the reality of their marriage. As indicated by Amy’s diary pages, their marriage hasn’t always been smooth sailing. I’m interested in seeing how this book will develop because Nick’s experience and Amy’s diary tells two different stories with their own thoughts about their marriage and each other.

My favourite of the books I have read so far is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. It is a psychological thriller that explores a psychotherapist’s journey in helping a patient who hasn’t spoken a word since the day she shot her husband. The reason I like this book is because of the twist at the end. Regardless of my guesses about why this woman stayed silent, I couldn’t guess the correct reason. I think this book is really well written because of the psychological journey it takes you on.
