What is Graphic Design?
Graphic design is creating something visual and 2D with a purpose behind it.
What Inspires Me About Design?
Getting to create something for the greater good, to make something that can help other people, makes me more interested in design and inspires me to do more in design.
What Are My Favourite Design Examples?
What’s My Most Memorable Experience Designing (Or Creating) Something?
Product design in 7th grade had some memorable experiences for me. For example, we made phone holders for our lockers. It was special because I filled a word engraved into the wooden surface with a laser cutter with individual glitter pieces. It took a lot of patience and time but created something that represented my personality which I’m happy with, even to this day. Also, in my street art enrichment in 8th grade, I made a stencil of my dog that took me three hours to cut because of all the small details to show the fur. It’s very memorable because, firstly, I was able to create a piece of artwork of my dog. Second, it also took a lot of patience and time, but the end result definitely made all the effort worth it.
What Would I Like to Get Better At As a Designer?
I would like to learn more about photo editing and using various apps on the iPad and computer to further expand my skillset as a designer.
What Do I Do Pretty Well Already?
I think I do pretty well with pulling all my ideas together and putting together a finished final product. I also am confident with my ability to use colour and formatting to create something aesthetically pleasing.

Reflection:
The style I chose for my digital self-portrait represents who I am. Although it is pretty simplistic with mainly solid colours, it still took a lot of patience and precision to achieve a final result I am happy with. That reflects how I like things to be precise and close to perfect, even if it’s not very complex.
I used Affinity to create this portrait because I wanted to try something new and challenge myself using a new platform. I chose the most essential shadows and highlights to accentuate some features while still keeping it simple.
I am mostly happy with how my poster turned out because everything is clear, but they also work well together. Another success would be how the text is easy to read and how my portrait turned out realistic but still simple. Next time, I would like to be more efficient while creating the self-portrait, possibly not making everything perfect down to the last detail so I can have more time to play with the poster’s design.
