Socratic Seminar Reflection

During the formative Socratic Seminar, I was able to express my ideas confidently and fluently using a formal register and academic style. I also provided necessary clarifications to enhance everyone’s understanding of the points discussed. The feedback on the rubric says “do more to analyze language”, so being able to connect the language choices Alexie has made to the themes presented across the novel is something I can improve on for the next Socratic Seminar. Not only would I like to deepen my exploration of the novel and share more detailed and in-depth observations, but I would also like to invite other members to contribute their thoughts to take more of a leadership role in the discussion. In the formative one, I “played a very supportive role” therefore something I can aim for next time is to effectively include everyone in the conversation. A way to work towards the goal during the discussion would be to look out for the quieter members of the group. A way to prepare beforehand would be to prepare questions that are more thought-provoking and “share more open-ended questions throughout”.
