This is my reflection of the 3-day trip we had. The 3-day trip is known as: “The Civilization Game”
What new skills did you learn?
I learned how to make a fire with flint and steel. That is a completely new thing for me.
What did you learn about another classmate?
I learned that some of my friends spend lots of time packing before the trip, therefore coming prepared for the trip, unlike other classmates that packed the day before and forgot lots of stuff.
What was the most challenging part of the trip?
I think the most challenging part is raft building because you have to tie the knots very secure in order for the raft to hold on when you put it in the river. The raft my team built had very loose knots, therefore it broke. However, it broke when we are carrying it to the riverbank. It didn’t break in the river.
What did you enjoy the most about the trip?
I liked how I managed to cook multiple meals on a campfire. For the dinner of day 1, we cooked pasta on the fire. For the lunch of day 2, we cooked hotdogs on the fire again.
What advice would you give to the next group?
My advice would be to make sure you have lots of clothes to change into because you can get easily dirty on the residential trip. I’d also say that you might need to bring some gloves to handle dirty wood, dirt, leaves, etc.
