Self Manager Learning Assets

Looking over my ratings, I think that I have to have more of a “self manager” since I sometimes get distracted easily. For example, even though I can use my time effectively, when someone talks to me, I get distracted and just start talking to them, instead of replying simply and get right back to work. That is why I have to be able to choose a good learning spot for myself.

Warriors Book Review

The second book of the third series, Warriors: Power of Three #2: Dark River by Erin Hunter, brings readers more adventure and action as the clans fight each other for territory, food and shelter. Lionpaw Jaypaw and Hollypaw, grandchildren of the Thunderclan leader; Firestar has more mysteries waiting for them than they even know about. As they thrive as apprentices, they also find things that they wouldn’t expect waiting for them. Where would that lead them? To the underground tunnels, where Lionpaw meets Heatherpaw? Or way back to the mountains and the tribe cats? But as they find travel to the mountains, they may find answers and secrets they never expected.

Reflection on Driving Question

Looking back on Project Self, I learned that if I want to truly understand something, I have to really dig into it. For example, I can’t just research a little and just say that I know everything, because more questions will come up as I research, and only when I know the answer to all of my questions, I truly understand the thing I’m researching about. Project self also made me realize that I have to improve on justify with evidence since that I can make a claim but sometimes cannot justify my claim with evidence, and so when people ask me “why do you say that” sometimes I don’t have an answer, and thats why I have to improve on justifying with evidence.

Day one Mesopotamia Sim Reflection

Today in humanities, we did a simulation on Ancient Mesopotamia. We were split into 5 different groups, each team has different materials and we had to do a lot of different task (making laws, creating buildings and creating written language) we had to trade until we had the right materials to build the “top secret formula” (we weren’t told that whichever group makes it first, wins). During the activity, I didn’t just do one thing, I did a lots of different parts of different things, like how I did a part of the making laws but I also helped with the language. As a group, we divided the work load up by everybody not just doing one thing, but different things (only one person did the trading). I think that our biggest accomplishment as a civilization was how we finally got the spoon, because that was one of two things (the other one was tape) that we were missing to make the “top secret formula”.

Our weakest point as a civilization was that we weren’t really communicating much, and that most of the times, we were just working on our own. Also, our materials weren’t the best (although it was ok). If I could do this activity again, I would change our “natural” material basket and that I’ll try to communicate more with my teammates.

Ancient Egypt Papyrus Project-Steven, Andrew, Wan Hin

Save the penguin project

This unit in science, we did the “save the penguin” project. This project is about designing a thing that can prevent heat loss. To test the project, every group will measure the mass of an ice cube, and put it in there design, after that, all the groups will put their design under a heat lamp, and wait. The group which lost the least mass, wins.

One thing I’m proud of when I did this project is when we thought of the simple idea where you just put wrappings around the whole ice cube, which worked, by the way. The idea is very simple, you just wrap mylar and stuff around it.

A new skill I learned in this project which I never used before is using the hot glue gun. At first, it was hard to handle the hot glue gun, but then, slowly, I began to know how to work the gun. This is a warning, never try to touch the hot glue, unless it’s dry, it really burns.

A hard thing about this project is how to put the whole thing together. For example, you glue the mylar together, five minutes later, it falls apart.

All in all, I really enjoyed this project.

Water……

This is me and Aaron’s water filter, our challenge was to make a water filter to survive on a deserted island,
