Formal Elements

formal elements are all the art elements that make up artwork. These elements are line, pattern, shape, space, form, texture and tone.

  1. line

lines are one of the most versatile elements in photography. Lines can show contrast, distance, repetition, and so on. But, on top of this, lines can also be used to create other elements. It can make patterns, shape, and even form.

2. Pattern

The pattern element is when there is repetition in the art work.

3. Form

Form is how an item/shape takes up space in an image. Like length, width, and height.

texture-

texture is when an artwork has texture in it.

tone-

tone is when a piece of art has multiple different types of lighting in the image. eg. black and white.

shape-

shape is when there are prominent shapes in a photo/piece of art

space-

Positive space is when space attracts attention in an image, negative space is when the space is unnecessary to the artwork.

I believe that more than one element of art can be displayed in one image because there can be small aspects of each element in one photo.
