Give an overview of your design process, sharing the product & your learning.
The design and the basic structure of my product were satisfactory. However, it would not shoot the bullets out properly. So, our desire was not satisfied in that area. However, through this, I could learn a valuable lesson, “It is not good to have ‘too much’ of anything.”
Use the rubric & your own success criteria to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the product.
Our product does satisfy the success criteria of the following- elastic bands do not snap, it is safe, and it is stable. Our product is exceptionally safe since the bullet does not even shoot. It is designed as expected. Nevertheless, it did not function as expected since the time was too short.
Explain how and why your toy/device meets the design specifications.
The Criterions:
- The product is stable, permanent, and functions correctly.
- It smoothly shoots the bullets.
- It is not dangerous.
- Minor errors.
- It meets the Science Engineering rubric.
It partially meets the first and third criteria since it is stable and permanent thanks to the wooden base and hot glue. Notwithstanding, it does not function properly as its bullets are not launched smoothly because the trigger is not allied to the bullet perfectly. As the bullets do not even launch, the product is exceptionally safe. Criteria number 2 and 4 are not met, as explained before. It does meet the Science Engineering Rubric perfectly. Our thoughts were demonstrated almost perfectly in this artifact, the energy transfer unit that we learned in the science class was used effectively in this artifact, and we applied all the feedback and modified our product, knowing the strengths and weaknesses of our product.
Other reflections: What are you most proud of? What was most challenging?
The proudest part of my artifact is that I have made this product from the start till the end. I designed, developed, created, and modified this product just by myself and my teammate, Joseph. Although it does not function perfectly, it works sometimes, so it is not an absolute failure. Time management was the most challenging for our group because if we had just a little more time, we should have made our disc launcher perfectly.
