My Vision

MY vision is to inspire people to step away from complicated social relationships and appreciate the world’s beauty. Drawing inspiration from Saul Leiter’s style, which focuses on the reflection of light, you aim to capture images with a strong vision. By incorporating elements of light and shadow, as well as reflections, you can create intriguing and poetic photographs. Experiment with different lighting conditions, angles, and perspectives to highlight the beauty you wish to convey. Seek simplicity, serenity, and unexpected beauty in everyday scenes. Through your photography, invite viewers to pause, reflect, and rediscover the unnoticed beauty of the world.

List of characteristics:

  • mainly focus on reflection on glass
  • favour red as main colour
  • Raining or snowing day
  • object inside and outside of an display case
  • capturing light

Leiter’s photographic work often captured everyday scenes in New York City, focusing on ordinary objects and people in urban environments. He had a unique ability to find beauty in mundane moments, creating poetic and introspective images. Leiter’s photographs often feature reflections, shadows, and blurred elements, which added a dreamlike quality to his compositions.

Why did I choose him?

I’ve chosen this photographer because I think his work is epic and we have the same beauty standards. We all favour the vibe of raining day and reflection though glass, and his work gives a huge visual impact.

A Quote from Saul Leiter

“Being ignored is a great privilege. That is how I think I learned to see what others do not see and to react to situations differently. I simply looked at the world, not really prepared for anything.”

I choose this quotation because it suited with my vision, sometime watching people is just to frustrating so we need to step out and look at the beauty of our world.

The artifact of Close-up motion.

The message of my photos will be to see the beauty of details that are not usually taken seriously. I want my audience to feel gloomy, alienation, desolation, and clam by focusing on reflection of light. I will get inspiration and develop my ideas by looking for photographs that include element like: motion, reflection through glass, black and white colour, contrast colour.

Succeed Photos:

This photograph is well-suited to its composition as it employs a half and half format, splitting both the image and colors evenly. The balanced arrangement and divided colors create a visually striking effect, evoking a sense of contrast and harmony.

Despite the reverse layout, this photograph remains well-suited due to the consistent presence of leading lines. These lines guide the viewer’s gaze, create depth, and offer a unique perspective. The reversal adds intrigue and challenges perception, contributing to its visual appeal.

The spread-out composition of this photograph enhances its visual appeal. The expansive nature of the scene creates a sense of openness and balance, allowing for a comprehensive view of the subject matter.

Despite other repeated subjects, this photograph still suits the composition because two prominent lines in the foreground maintain their position. These lines act as visual anchors, guiding the viewer’s gaze and adding balance to the image.

This photograph suits the composition because it shares a common element with the other elements in the picture: grids. The presence of grids adds structure, visual interest, and a sense of precision to the image, creating a cohesive visual narrative.

The photograph suits the composition because the focal point is positioned in the upper right corner. This placement adds visual interest, creates a sense of balance, and engages the viewer’s curiosity.

Unsuccessful Photos:

These photos are not successful because either the lines are not straight, or it does not suit the composition.

Abstract Photography #2

My definition of photography:

Abstract photography refers to a form of artistic expression within the realm of photography that emphasizes the use of shapes, colors, lines, and other visual elements to create images that deviate from traditional representation. Abstract photography is a type of artistic photography that prioritizes shapes, colors, lines, and other visual elements to create images that differ from traditional representation. Instead of capturing recognizable subjects, abstract photography breaks them down, distorts them, or presents them in fragmented ways. This approach aims to evoke emotions, stimulate imagination, and convey ambiguity. By focusing on visual elements rather than identifiable objects or scenes, abstract photography encourages subjective interpretation, inviting viewers to engage with the image on a more emotional and abstract level.

List 3 things the photographer might have been interested in capturing in this picture?

a. The snake’s body showcases an intriguing and captivating pattern that immediately draws attention. The intricate design created by the scales adds a layer of visual complexity and enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the photograph.

b. The dark and penetrating eyes of the snake serve as a powerful focal point within the photo. Their intensity and depth capture the viewer’s gaze, creating a sense of connection and intrigue. The contrast between the dark eyes and the rest of the image further emphasizes their significance and adds a sense of mystery to the composition.

c. The snake’s posture, characterized by its graceful and curving shape, adds a dynamic element to the photograph. The sinuous curves of its body create a sense of movement and fluidity, enhancing the overall visual interest. This posture not only adds to the intriguing nature of the image but also conveys a sense of the snake’s inherent grace and agility.

If you were the photographer, what title would you give it? Explain why.

If I were the photographer, I would title this image “Pathway of Life” due to the visual effect it creates when viewed from a distance. The gradation of tones in the image gives the impression of a swirling vortex, symbolizing the journey and experiences that make up our lives.

Describe the use of line, shape, Pattern, texture, tone and focus.

The snake’s body lines skillfully form the shape of a sparrow, enhanced by the pattern created by its scales and the overall composition. The texture of the scales is pronounced and can be readily perceived, drawing attention to the focal point of the snake’s eyes.

Before edit:

I chose these pictures because they represent a captivating combination of black and primary colors. I made adjustments to the HSL settings to emphasize and enhance the colors, adding a dynamic and artistic touch to the composition.

“Abstract photography can be defined as capturing images in which the subject isn’t the most interesting element”?

35 Abstract Photography Tips and Ideas

Cox, Spencer. “35 Abstract Photography Tips and Ideas.” Photography Life, 3 Sept. 2018, photographylife.com/abstract-photography-tips-and-ideas. Accessed 29 Aug. 2023.

I believe the reason for the subject isn’t the most interesting element of abstract photographs is because you can see instinct things though those subjects. Seeing from different perspective, movement, and light,  the viewers will see unexpected, often unrecognizable image. The more you look, the more you see, creating a fun experience other than photographs that gives you the straight meanings.
