English Reading reflection

Hi my name is Eric Zhang, and this is my reflection of my current english reading skills and knowledge.

For me, English is a VERY VERY hard language, reading in english has been my frustration since 6th grade. In this year, which is 9th grade, I have only read 1 full book (a true diary of a part time Indian), but thats not independent reading at all. in my independent reading, I find it very challenging, so I have only read like 40 pages of Robinson’s crew so far. I thought I had chosen an easy book, but it seems the opposite, there are tons of vocabulary that I don’t understand in each page. In the 40 pages I have read so far, a guy named Robinson had experienced a lot of things. He loves sailing, but his parents are very afraid because one family member once died because of sailing, but still he kept perusing his dreams of sailing. In one stormy night, the ship he is in drowned, but he surprisingly escaped in a wooden barrel, which resulted him to get captured by pirates, and became a slave. Soon enough, he met two friends Ismael and Xury, which then they decided to escape the pirate ship together later in the book (prediction).

Science design project – Develop&Plan

Our success criteria stated that our product should be a toy that is fun for children to play with while demonstrating energy transformations. While researching about precedents, we found out about a catapult toy that clearly demonstrates potential and kinetic energy. In the beginning, we wanted to create a simple catapult toy controlled by buttons. However, we decided to iterate this design to involve a syringe lever when we stumbled upon a lever device that is controlled by 2 syringes compressing on each other. We took inspiration from the design, and we decided to implement this design into our catapult. We combined the two design ideas into a design concept. We decided upon a catapult that is controlled by a syringe lever. After our concept was developed, we started looking for materials and planning our design. We took measurements of the materials and iterated our models and plans according to our available materials

Science project – Define and Inquire

Precedents:

CATAPULT TOY

We will make a catapult that can be launched by a syringe lever. When you push on the syringe, it launches to form potential energy from mechanical energy. Then, when the ball launches, it creates kinetic energy

Mechanical—->Potential—->Kinetic

  1. What is the purpose of your device/toy, how does it function, and who is your user?

The catapult teaches students of energy transformation between mechanical, potential, and kinetic energy. The toy allows students to have fun playing while learning about energy transformation. The students can push the syringe to launch the catapult and record their observations of energy while having fun with the toy. Parents and teachers can use this toy to teach their kids or students about energy transformation.

2. What is the environmental impact of your product and is it durable and safe?

Our product can have environmental impacts by renewable wood resources instead of plastic materials. This is environmentally friendly. It is durable and safe for students to use. The syringes are recyclable and can be reused when the catapult is disassembled. The wood pieces and materials used can all be recycled after the catapult is disassembled.

  3. What precedents inspired you? What did you take away from them? How did it inform your choices?

We were inspired by a catapult toy. It clearly demonstrates kinetic and potential energy while it is fun for children to play with. We also took inspiration from a lever made from pressing syringes that shows mechanical energy. We added the syringe design to the catapult so pressing the syringe would launch the catapult. We combined them so students can understand all three types of energy. These precedents combined gave us inspiration about how we can create a toy that transfers mechanical to potential energy that also transfers to kinetic energy.

4.  How are you making your product original and/or using creativity?

Our product is made from a combination of a catapult and a syringe lever. We will modify the syringe lever and connect it so it launches the catapult. This will show the mechanical energy converting to potential energy and kinetic energy. We combined the two precedents to create a creative and original product.

Myth and ritual project Reflection

We just finished out performing our Myth and ritual project, overall, I believe we did pretty well. we first choreographed what we are going to perform, which was the creation of life. But then i broke my achilles after the first class, so there had to be some changes, I went on to do the lightings and the voice recordings. Then i worked together with Mrs Hill and the it departments to figure out the lighting process. After knowing all the controls of lighting, I choreographed a lighting performance in order to fit the piece.   For our story, we are trying to show how life was created after the fight of fire and ice god. I think in the case of my Achilles tendon injury, I did well and did everything I could. However, there may be some minor mistakes in the lighting during the performance, but it will not hurt the overall elegance.

Mask Reflection

This is my first time wearing a full-face mask, so I’m not very used to it. Also, the mask didn’t fit my face, which made it more challenging. But after I wore it, it made me feel that I’m a completely different person; I’m not eric anymore; I’m another random person in the future world. Overall, it’s a pretty good experience doing suck stuff with masks.

Chair Duet Reflection (1)

When we did chair duets, if it’s different genders, I think some kind of relationship is going on. I felt a bit shy while touching and getting touched, but overall I’m okay with that, I was trying hard to mimic different kinds of moves in the video, but I also think of my own movements that I created. I think the main challenge I have is to be more confident when getting touched.

Theatre Reflection

For me right now, i believe that physical theatre is basically acting out and preforming out a story, sing a song and etc. i think that im pretty confident on my acting skills, but i might not trust my body on certain parts such as flexibility, but overall im trust my body and physicality.

The Independence of the Greatest Country of the World – America

In this project, we’re learning about the American revolution that took place in 1763 to 1783. We learned about the different events that occurs during the revolution which made it important toward the revolution.  In this video, we will be presenting the revolution’s different important events which lead to the major turning points,  we will be also introducing you to the effects that the American revolution have brought. This is the American Revolution in Plain English!  Enjoy!

light box design reflection

it is a very fun quarter during design, we’ve got a challenge by my design teacher, Mr layman, by making a lightbox about our favorite place that we forget during the Covid 19. i’ve learned that making a light box is hard and takes alot of time. i’ve learned a lot of design skills on my computer too, i learned how to use illistater to design boxes and layers. if i could make a new light box, i would chose a different place because the black hole is a bit easy for me. i want challenging things.
