FOUND POEM/Paragraph

This found poem is made to describe one of the main conflicts in the short story “Lamb to The Slaughter,” written by Roald Dahl. The conflict I chose to focus on is at the beginning of the story, where the main character, Mary, finds out that her husband wants to leave her. This is an internal conflict because the struggle happens inside Mary’s mind. She has to decide what to do to avoid not getting abandoned by her husband. After her husband tells her he is leaving, she feels shock, disbelief, and numbness. The author describes her shocked reaction as sitting still with “dazed horror.” Her disbelief is shown when “she went about her business and acted as though she hadn’t been listening.” Finally, her numbness was described as “she couldn’t feel anything at all. “It depict this internal conflict; I made the image using Word and hand drawings.

I used the color green for the background because green mean divorce or when somebody leaves in Chinese; I drew an image of the skull to represent someone bad happens, in this case it’s called the “Death”; I also used the phrase, “So I’ve killed him” to show that Mary killed her husband without any hesitation, that makes this character scary. “She simply walked behind him” can show that there’s another character in this scene, which is the husband. I think my found poem does a good job both literally and through design to show the internal conflict of Mary trying to not let the divorce happen, but she didn’t stop it, so Mary decided to use a leg of lamb to end this conversation.
