in this big unit, each of us had a speaker and we are supposed to make a “box” to hold our speaker with. we had to make our project based on a design aesthetic. the aesthetic i chose is “art-deco”.
reflection ?
what did you struggle with most during the project?
the thing i struggled with the most is glueing all my pieces together to make the shape i want. it was tough because it’s really hard for me to hold all the pieces in shape without letting them to fall. also, one of the criteria was to have very small amount (or even none) of glue visible, so i had to glue a small piece and then use the cloth to wipe it out. i had to repeat the processes couple times with holding my pieces together the same time, so it was a struggling for me… but in the end, i think i overcame this struggle pretty well ._.
what’s a skill you learned or improved on over the course of this project?
in fact, there’s not only one skill i learned through this project… there’s multiple <3 the first skill i learned is using affinity to design the speaker patterns i want. at the beginning of the project, i thought i would be easy to have what i want incipiently in the end product, but as i used affinity over and over, it is kind of hard to get all the shapes i want in the speaker faced. the second skill i learned is the “stain” process. i wasn’t exposed to all kinds of coloring methods, but i think the “stain” method was the most unfamiliar one to me. i think i learned to stain my wood pieces pretty quick and the stained pieces turned out like the way i want.
what aspect of the project are you most proud of?
i am the most proud of my faced and the access to my buttons i guess .-. even though i had changed the way my faced looks through the whole process, but the faced turned out pretty good…? and i could justify each patterns on my faced with one element of the aesthetic i chose, which helped me a lot when justifying. i am also proud of the access to my buttons because in the beginning when we had to measure, i was really confused. i didn’t know how to measure and was very afraid that my access to buttons will be very messy. but after i sent my affinity file to the laser cut, the holes actually fits the button well. as well as in my final product, the access to buttons are pretty clean..? ?
overall, i enjoyed this unit a lot and i think my project is my best effort.
