Found Poem “Thank You Ma’am”

The title of the short story I used to make this found poem was “Thank You Ma’am” by Langston Hughes. The conflict in my found poem is an internal conflict, it was when the antagonist was debating on escaping when the door was open. So, I took these words from the story to really identify what he was thinking of. I also tried to add a lot of action to the poem. I made a poster to display my found poem, I used little drawings on the outside that represent all the little things in the background that helped create this conflict, or other conflicts in the story. I chose to do my found poem digitally because it was easier to add effects into my poem. I chose to bold some words to really show their importance.

How Percy Should Manage His Emotions

What choices could Percy make to better manage his emotions?

Hana Parker

Can you imagine wondering what your whole life would have been like knowing your dad? That is what Percy is thinking about all the time, and he probably always gets so upset because of all the anxiety and stress is held on his shoulders. If Percy learns how to manage his emotions in a better way then there is no doubt, he will feel so much better, be less stressful, and have a better look at school!

Percy Jackson can be very emotional. Here are some of the example of the Lightning Thief that really show his anger and what he is feeling inside:

 On page 5 Percy yelled, “’Will you shut up!?!?!?!’ — it came out louder that I meant”.

 On page 17 Percy said, “Finally, when our English teacher, Mr. Nicoll, asked me for the millionth time why I was too lazy to study for spelling tests, I snapped. I called him an old sot. I wasn’t even sure what it meant, but it sounded good.

 On page 33 Percy started to get mad and anxious and, gritted my teeth

 On page 39 Percy said, I gritted my teeth

 On page 39 Percy said, “Because you don’t want me around?” I regretted the words as soon as they were out.

These examples say a lot of things without thinking, this is why I think that he should try some methods to help him for making a very small problem into a big one. Here is some advice for Percy whenever he feels as if he might explode:

 He can walk away and take three deep breaths
 Talk to a trusted friend, teacher or parent
 Calmly talk things out with the person who is fighting with you

The articles I used for this advice are the Newsela article, new ways to think about ADHD and Recognizing and Managing emotions by SkillsYouNeed.

Those are just a few of the many pieces of advice for him. If he had used one of these methods every time, he had an issue with someone imagine if he would have still been in his old school? Or maybe he would have never had detentions?

All of these things could really help Percy in the future to create better relationships with people, have a better social life and also get his grades up and be a better kid! I think that for future purposes Percy should definitely read this paper so he can manage his anger and emotions properly!

A Second Chance by Hana Parker

One of my favourite things about this Graphic Novel unit is that I got to make this story really my own. Usually when we right a narrative it is all focused on the writing, but in this unit I got to learn so many new skills as a writer and I got the learn about the drawing part aswell, it made me feel more realistic.

One of the challenges in this unit was coming up with the idea of my novel. Alot of people might think that oh this is just a graphic novel it should be easy to come up with an idea, but really when I wrote the Graphoc Novel I didn’t want it to be plain and simple I wanted to take a pretty big idea and change it up a bit and put it all into one graphic novel.

Polar Regions Mini Project

What is your biggest take away from 6th grade science?
I didn’t have science in fifth grade but I do now and it gives me a little bosst for the harder learnings in the future.
If you were to write your own comment on the report card, what would you say? How confident do you feel in making models in science, analyzing data, and constructing scientific explanations?
I feel confident in analyzing data and looking up facts about different things. I would say that I am better at analyzing data and finding facts but the different vocabulary struggles from timt to time.
What would you like to work on for next year in science?
Definetly another habitat unit because I really enjoyed it.

Character Change Through Theodore Boone the Kid Lawyer

Theodore Boone The Kid Lawer by hana.parker8

I found this project very fun. I enjoyed pushing myself with reading and my book. I don’t usually read books like this one and it was nice to have a change of genre. I also found it really fun to focus on character change through the story. Something I struggled with was sometimes keeping up with the reading but every time I had trouble keeping up I always read the amount I needed to the next day. There is another book Theodore Boone the activist, I am really excited to get reading on that book.

In and Out of the Pool

I found this project to be really fun, I really enjoyed looking back on it and it is probably my favourite project of the year. I found it amazing how far we have come in e-learning, looking at all the photos I have it almost seems unreal. Something I struggled with during this project is trying to focus in on one moment in the journal entries. Something I really enjoyed was looking back at all the photos.

Covid 19 Rice Krispies

This is me making two different types of rice krispies with marshmallows buttter and cereal. I am using corn flakes in one and rice krispies in the other, the rice krispue ones were definetly better. The reason why I made two was because at first I went to like three different grocery shops and could not find them in any, then when I went to another one I finally found them but had already bought the corn flakes. This is the embed code…

Early Humans Diet

Something that I found challenging in this project was finding the right primry source because alot of websites didn’t have the exact primary sources that I needed. Something that I found not as challenging was making my script, because my script was basically a recap of all the things I was researching.

Homo Erectus; The Upright Man

Homo erectus is known as “the upright man”. The homo erectus lived the longest out of all hominins other homo sapiens. The homo erectus started out as an Asian specie, but then it spread out all of Europe and Africa as well.

One of their capabilities are the ability to make tools. It is really important to be able to have tools because it helps this specie by hunting for food or cutting up really hard materials to make shelter.

Another capability they had was the ability to make fire. Fire helps this specie to survive in the cold weathers and winter. Also, the fire can help this specie cook their food. The homo erectus also improved a lot of their sources compared to the homo habilis. They had fire to help them cook food, keep warm and scare off and harmful beasts.

In conclusion, homo erectus are much improved species to their past specie, homo habilis. The homo erectus is a lot more like the homo sapiens sapiens than the homo habilis. The homo erectus helped us evolve to the homo sapiens sapiens that we are today.
