Quiet Power by Susan Cain is about introverts and explains how introverts can also change the world by their own personalities and abilities. This book also contains the lessons from the author which she wants the readers to know. People know that introverts are those quiet and shy people around us and people judge them by their personalities which is quiet and shy. In this blog post, I am going to show you some of my notes from my notebook about the book “Quiet Power”. This while be our final assessment based on the Literacy non-fiction.
I really enjoyed this book and while you read through my notes, you can see that I took a lot of notes about the lessons/quotes that the author gave to the readers.
??The first image of my notebook is mainly about introverts. In the central idea part, I listed the personalities that introverts have. This had caused stereotypes (you can see in the issue part) because mostly extroverts can’t understand why introverts are too quiet and too shy to express/share their ideas in front of people. People also think that extroverts and introverts are two totally different people which means there are no in-betweens. Actually, there can be in-betweens.
??On this page, I added the main point section where I combined all the important ideas from pages 1-34. The reason I did that was that I wanted to have an easier way to be able to see the main points of the book. So what I did was I added the main central idea, theme, and issues that happened inside my book from pages 1-34. Next to the main point section, I added a question. This is still unsolved, so I am still very curious about the reason why the author added drawings instead of images. The main point of this page is how introverts socialize. Throughout the book, there are more parts where it explains how introverts socialize with others and how they think about that.
??This page is actually the page where I took notes about the theme/quote that I thought was really interesting. While I was reading the book and writing these notes down, I found out that the author really has a deep understanding of introverts surviving the world. These years, more and more people are becoming popular people or a person who succeeded really well. Some may think that the personalities that introverts have can’t survive in this world because they can’t speak up or they aren’t brave enough to do something. This is where the author starts to teach us and tells us that introverts have their own way to achieve something and never let the stereotype ruin what you currently have. I liked the part where it says on page 172 “you cannot let fear become a thief. It will steal so many precious things and rob you of so many incredible moments”. The reason I liked this part was because of how the author uses fear and thief to teach a lesson or gives us a message.
??This last page is the page where I made a cause and effect mindmap. The reason the arrows have two different colors is because of the first cause it made. For the blue parts, the first cause was “introverts being shy and quiet”. Then this led to 3 effects and those effects had affected other effects. On the other hand, the green part’s first cause was building confidence. Then this led to an effect and it kept ongoing. At the bottom of the page, I wrote a theme from the author and a theme that I came up with. The theme from the author was from the introduction where she shortly explains about this book and this theme was from that part. The theme I came up with was a theme from myself and my book club partner. After reading this book, he and I were discussing the main lesson that the author wants to tell and we found out that people have different personalities and if we don’t respect this, then they will have a hard time socializing with people and they will have a hard time to go over this problem.
The author Susan Cain had also made a speech in TedTalk where she explains more about introverts and their lifetime. After you read this post and you are pretty interested in this topic, I recommend you to watch that video.
