Am I a Humanist?

Am I a Humanist? by Lilian

Overall, I think I am pretty much a Renaissance Humanist. I rated 21 out of 25, which I am 84% a humanist.  I agreed that how humanists believed that every human has unlimited potential and should be valued. Everybody should be able to determine themselves through their ability, not the family they were born in. If it was still the same today, then many of the poor people wouldn’t have the chance to be well educated or learn about the world above them. I also believe that religion should be separated from the government. In the dark ages, the church was the highest in power. The laws were from the bible. It forced everybody to just to accept the laws in order to create a better afterlife for themselves. For example in India today, they still follow the Caste system. No matter how educated or successful you are, if you are from the bottom social classes, you will be treated differently from the higher classes. I believe everybody should be equal, we should not be judged by what we were born in. Our status should be determined by ability, not family, just like what the Renaissance humanists believed in. I agree with many of the Renaissance Humanism elements, and I believe that many of the Humanism thinkings are the foundation of today’s government system and today’s society.
