Activities—board games

My board game is where you role the dice and moves forward, there are points located in different places, the person with most points win. There are cards and if you get cards you just do what it says, sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad.

Habitat Mini Project—Polar Regions

Reflection:

    1. My greatest take away is  learning to make models and understand energy. Because before 6th grade I don’t know about those energy transformations, making CERs and drawing models in a correct way. I got many new science knowledge.
    2. I think I need more work on writing a good CER and learning new things in science. Also what I’d like to do is being about to do science experiments. Sometimes I still need more work in reviewing the knowledge I’ve learned.

Our Stories Make History

Our Stories Make History—Reflection

In our humanities unit “Our Stories Make History”, we recorded many things that relate to us and affects us during the period of the coronavirus (Covid-19). In this project, we learned to find reliable sources that relate to coronavirus so that we won’t be fooled by fake news and some bias. I organized my project by sections, I started by putting the collage as an introduction to my experience in Beijing. The second section are my emotional changes which are the diary entries and emotional timeline. My performance piece is related to the timeline. I organized it this way because it would help my audiences understand my feelings and the events that happened more, how some projects like the performance piece relate to others like the timeline.

My primary source can be useful for future historians because it shows how people live through the coronavirus period. This source can help for people in the future to learn more about what virus like this might cause, if it repeats (hopefully don’t), we’ll know better about what to do. My source can tell how some worries are brought while we can still be living really nicely. There are some basic facts in my source about what happened, how e-learning was like and how schools were closed. I personally don’t relate to the virus very much, some people have family members infected by the virus and some are infected themselves, others will need to learn about those to.

Though out this unit of creating a primary source, one of the things that I’m proud of is that I get to explore a lot of different websites: Canva, Book creator, Newsbank, The beijinger, etc. I had improved a lot on problem solving skills when some of the things don’t work in certain times. I also am proud of improving my skills of writing a diary, before I did write diary, but they are just to keep track of what I did that day, it doesn’t encloud a lot of emotions. Doing daily journaling may be tiring but helps me to improve my feelings expressing skills and skills on maintaining doing journaling every single day. A challenged is definitely internet problems, our WIFI often don’t work and I need to organize my time and prepare for a sudden internet problem. Another challenge was that I sometimes spend too much time trying to make things perfect, I need to learn to get better at knowing what needs to be perfect while some others don’t.

Creative Performance Assignment

Here is the performance I made, it is sort of a collage with 4 things that happened in this period of time with the coronavirus. The first section (top left) is about how we canceled our trip to Gubei Water Town, I was really disappointed because I was really looking forward to it.

The second section (top right) is about e-learning, I’m surrounded with work and sometimes get quite stressful. Things I miss include not being around my friends unable to go out and have bubble tea, ice-cream and sushi.

The third section (bottom left) is about how every one if wearing mask.

The fourth section (bottom right) is about my trip to Hebei, Cangzhou, my grandmother’s house. I went there at the beginning of Chinese New Year and had a nice time.

The middle is a birdcage inspired by an artwork I painted in art class, inside is our house and house we’re all locked inside.

Early Humans and Us Thinglink Reflection

This is a reflection on Early Humans and Us project I did in humanities class.

What I think I did well on was my infographic because I really like the format of a timeline I did and the information was short and quite related and useful.

What I think didn’t went as expected was that when I researched, I researched the wrong information that was about food but not so related to my big research question. This shortened my research time.

I would change my oral reflection video because I think I didn’t use enough hand movement, got lost in the middle and was kind of reading the script, which is boring for the audience.

Early Humans and Us research project

In humanities class, we did a research project about how early humans and modern humans are connected from three aspects: community, technology and diet. My research topic is diet and my research question is how does the use of fire or heat affect our relationship with food throughout history. Here is my Thinglink project.

Prevent heat transfer—Cup Insulator

I think our insulator works very well since the difference is about only 6 celsius. The foil works very well in the insulator because in the can experiment and the penguin project, it all worked nicely. Our also works because we got cotton inside the box next to the cup and that makes a new thick layer to stop heat from escaping. The foil on the sides of the lid are for stopping heat to escape from the gap between the body and the lid. Overall, most heat is trapped inside the prototype so our prototype works well.

I am proud of us making an insulator that works the best in our class so I think it’s very successful, it trapped most heat.

Something I would do differently is making our insulator easier to remove from cup because after 20 mins, the handle of the mug turned super hot and when taking the mug out, the water might spill. To do that, I think I could make the insulator wider but I’m worried if doing that would decrease the temperature of the liquid inside of the mug.

The hardest part of this project is finding the right material because we don’t have some of the materials we planed to use (example: mylar) and we has to use something else instead.
