Photoshoot

This is the photoshoot Marya and I did. We played around with the lights and dark-colored background. At first, we struggled with the light settings, in which the background didn’t show up as dark or blurry but we could see the creases. So we adjusted some of the camera settings and got it to focus on us, while having the background blurry. In my opinion, the images we took are a good replication of the photos I designed on the program.

Architecture and Cyanotype Works

Above are my architecture works, where I edited them black and white and adjusted the contrast of the images. I decided to edit photos that were overall angular and geometric in composition, but with abstract details.

Above are the original images of a boy in a stroller and grandmas in wheelchair. I choose these images because the strollers and the wheelchair both represent the need of a support, showing the circle of life, that getting old life is almost a return of being young. I also think that the contrast of the images would look cool.

Above are the negatives of the photos, where I also cropped the wheelchair image so that the composition of the two images would be similar.

Above are my cyanotype images where the photos were put in the sunlight for around 8 minutes and rinsed off and dried. I think that the works turned out well, where the everything is very detailed. However, I think that I could have increased the contrast for the stroller image, and since there is a slight grainy effect on both images, so I should have increased the quality of the image before it was print out on negatives.

Set 2- The Shadow of the Guard

For my set 2 work, I decided to just go with one image because I think that it has a very interesting composition with a great sense of juxtaposition. I think that the shadow of the guard creates a graphic outline that contrasts with the realistic background. The guard is also still in comparison to the woman riding the bike in motion. I also like how the use of color is portrayed in this image. The bit of red of the woman on the bike creates a sense of focus on her.

Statement of Intent

“Passing of a Teenager’s Time” explores the overall monotonous nature with pieces of the excitement of a student’s life of going to school, going home, sleeping, and repeating. I want my audience to feel a sense of boredom and relate to the never-ending cycle of school and life in general, but to also find the joys in different parts of the day. I got inspiration by looking for photographs that encompass a circular composition, and have a sense of movement.

Above is a sketch of how I would want the piece to look like as a composition, with each highlight or part of my day as one square.
