An unheard voice

Orphaned at an early age, Carlos, a young teenage boy who lived in a lower-average class, struggled to keep him and his sister, Camila, alive. As Camila approached the end of her life near the beginning of the revolution, thus Carlos finally decided to step out and speak up.

Carlos joined the army and underwent the grueling Mexican Revolution. Throughout his journal, he describes the intense events and sacrifices of many leaders from 1910 to 1920. Below is the story of his commitment to his people, and his devotion to his younger sister.

The original intention was simply the overthrow of the Díaz dictatorship, but the political movement extended across Mexico and drove to an armed uprising, which was known as the Mexican Revolution. After ten years of struggling and pursuing, the rebllion finally came to an end in 1920. The most significant change that reshaped Mexico was definitely the place of great emphasis on individuals. Before the revolution, citizens worked in a set up called ‘the Haciendas’, which simply meant that people worked for higher classes, and the land didn’t belong to the workers themselves. These people suffered through the prolonged revolution, and lacked nourishment and money. From two of the presidents, Carranza and Obregon’s accomplishment, Mexico had a significant change in Land Reform, and gave prominence to democracy. Furthermore, the change also provided education, which allowed more opportunities for the citizens. In addition to that, the intended goal of the Mexican Revolution had succeeded, which was to cease dictatorship and opposing against the anti re-election party, established by Porfirio Diaz. As a result of the revolution, Alvaro Obregon nourished Mexico with care and provided numerous opportunities to make Mexico a better country.

After an abundance of gains and losses throughout the revolution, the Mexicans have finally accomplished their rebellion to the government, which created the coveted life they’ve been desiring for. In order to help a country become successful, revolutions and sacrifice are inevitable. Although some might see the Mexican Revolution as a bloody stuggle, I believe that the revolt was worthwhile, since it had promoted higher quality lives and benefited the people, which was the citizens’ original objective.
