Continuity and Change:
After years of hardship, colonists no longer had Britain to rely on, but to come together and build a brand new nation. The United States of America. Although thousand of slaves won their freedom by helping both sides of the War of Independence, slavery in the South still continued after it was started by Britain and Spain. They needed slaves to do most of the hard work so the plantation owners could make a profit. Land was expanded as possible, The American Revolution ended by doubling the size of the new nation, while people had separation of church and state. The Revolution opened new markets and new trade relationships. As usual, white and rich men were mostly in charge because of political power and reputation.
