A Lifeless Ocean

During the making proccess, I was very proud of my editing skills. I took my time to attentively make my video so that I could catch mistakes, add a good amount of video sources, and make sure the theme has a good feeling.

Battles to Liberty

For a long time, I always thought that I lived somewhere I could trust. But I was wrong because I fought my way to justice, and so did other colonies. Liberty took me a long way to find, but I am willing to sacrifice anything. This life-changing journey didn’t only change me but also changed others who battled with me. Chester is a 12-year-old tea merchant during the American revolution. As the government starts to be a threat to his job, how will his thoughts and actions change during the most brutal years of his life?

Continuity and Change:

After years of hardship, colonists no longer had Britain to rely on, but to come together and build a brand new nation. The United States of America. Although thousand of slaves won their freedom by helping both sides of the War of Independence, slavery in the South still continued after it was started by Britain and Spain. They needed slaves to do most of the hard work so the plantation owners could make a profit. Land was expanded as possible, The American Revolution ended by doubling the size of the new nation, while people had separation of church and state. The Revolution opened new markets and new trade relationships. As usual, white and rich men were mostly in charge because of political power and reputation.

Amelia Earhart, Life and Lost

Amelia Lost by Candace Fleming talks about the missing case of Amelia Earhart and a summary of her life. Amelia Earheart was known as the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic, the author changes perspective back and forth from her daily life and the day she went missing. The book gives a description of Amelia’s whole life starting from her childhood. Amelia was born in a family where girls were taught to be a lady and boys were taught to be a man; however, Amelia has always been a boy inside her. What she did and liked as a child did not go as society’s expectations for a girl, she had a special role and personality that led her to be what she wanted. Reading from her childhood, my first central idea was about being free of gender expectations in the 1900s.

The first three chapters had a lot of obvious examples of gender expectations and sexism, people judge others because of their difference from society just like how Amelia was judged for being a “Tomboy”.

I focused on my biggest idea which was about sexism and also my second idea reputation and wealth. This idea wasn’t very obvious in the beginning, but as I read to page 60, this idea happened more to Amelia herself.  Amelia’s reputation keeps going up and down during different situations, especially when she was announced as the first female pilot to fly solo at the Atlantic. In that situation, her gender didn’t really matter at that point because more people were liking her than judging her.

Then, I focused on the setting of the book. The author made the setting very different and unique that a lot of books don’t really have; instead of telling the story from the beginning to end, the author switches different perspectives from her daily life and the day she went missing. the author is trying to give a spoiler or a clue to tell us what might be happening in the future. This makes the reader feel anxious about what’s happening in that certain situation, and think about what might this flash-forward mean.

Lastly, parts to re-read are also important parts to build up my central ideas. quotes from the text that are important have lots of meanings, so I wrote down thoughts and reasons why I think it’s important at the bottom of the quote. One quote can tell us a lot, what’s more important is for me to explain the importance and to let that idea spread.

The States of Matter by olivia

I am 40% humanist because I agree that people should learn about humanities for knowledge and to know more about the world, but I am not very religious about life and god because I believe in more of science.
