“The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” Found Poem

This found poem was created using the story “The Bass, The River and Sheila Mant” by W. D. Wetherell. In this story, the main character faces an internal conflict between catching the biggest bass he’s caught all summer or not looking weird in front of the pretty girl who thinks fishing is “dumb, definitely dumb”. The main character ends up picking how he wants Sheila to perceive him, which, later, made him regret everything (“that lost bass haunted me all summer”). My poem encapsulates this conflict by showing how “torn apart” by picking between these two and how that decision affected him. The design of my found poem shows the ocean and a bass because that’s two of the things that play a role in the story.
