Lightbox reflection

For our first design project, we were told to create a lightbox that had the scenery of a place that is special or a place that we remember. During online learning, it was very hard to communicate with teachers but we still continued with our lightbox, first, we chose our site, then had started some designs on adobe illustrator but it was very difficult without having face-to-face help with teachers. After online learning, back to school we immediately started making the lightbox, starting off with designing in adobe illustrator. After we have our design all done, Mr.Layman and Mr.Gaby helped us cut our lightbox with the laser cutter. After we had our lightbox cut out, we had a sketch having where we will color and what color it’s going to be, once we had our sketch we started coloring, and let it dried. And the last step we have left is the LED and the spacers. We choose a way to put our LED in and I chose to wrap it around in circles inside, then after the LED, we can choose to glue the layers or no, and I chose to glue it together, while gluing I also added some spacers to have space for the LED. After this 3 months of design, my biggest success was learning how to use adobe illustrator, the first time using adobe illustrator was difficult but after 3months and with classmates and teachers help,  I feel like it much easier now, I know much more things about adobe compare to the first time using it. Something I’d like to change is adding more details, if I add more details I think it might also look better. But overall, I think my lightbox actually turned out pretty well, especially with the LED light opened.

Mentoring

  1. Activities
  • make food: Bubble tea, cake, ice cream

2. Service

  • make Tie- Dye hoodies and get money to donate to charities.
  • we will be donating this money we earned to a teacher that got cancer.

  1. Reflection
  • we will make a website for people to buy on it, this way it would be easier for people to buy it.

How ADHD and Positive relationship impact to Percy’s choices—– Rebecca Wang

How ADHD and Positive relationship impact to Percy’s choices

Percy is a character from a book called Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. This is going to talk about Percy’s choices from chapters 1-3. ADHD impacts Percy’s choices because he gets distracted easily and likes blurting out answers in class. This could be improved by medicine, medicine can help improve Percy’s focus and behavior, but for some people, these medicines can cause unwanted side effects. So, another way is to go outside for often, ADHD impacts Percy so Percy should ask his teachers to go outside more often. A positive relationship could also help Percy with his health. Percy could spend more time with family and friends, and when he misses someone for example, (his mom) he could write more letters to them, which can reduce him missing his friend and family.

ADHD impacts Percy’s choices because he gets distracted easily and likes blurting out answers in class. On page 5 Percy shouted,” Will you shut up!?!?!?” — It came out louder than I meant.” blurting out answers is a feature of ADHD, in the article it said, “These symptoms include fidgeting, difficulty playing quietly or not waiting for a turn and blurting out answers in class.” also in page 22, Percy said, “Thanks,” I blurted. “Thanks a lot, sir, for reminding me.” both quotes are a feature of ADHD which is, “getting easily distracted, not waiting for a turn and blurting out answers in class.” This could be improved by treating medicine. Medicine can help improve your focus and behavior, but for some people, these medicines can cause unwanted side effects, so Percy could also improve like people with ADHD, in the Newsela article it said, “People with ADHD also do their best in a stimulating environment. They like to be outdoors and move their bodies.” ADHD impacts Percy so Percy should ask his teacher to let him go outside more often, to help reduce his ADHD.

A positive relationship could help Percy with his health. On page32-33, Percy said, “My mother can make me feel good just by walking into the room,” and in the Newsela article, researchers said, “According to research by psychologist Sheldon Cohen, college students who reported having strong relationships were half as likely to catch a common cold.” On page 17, Percy said, “I was homesick. I wanted to be with my mom in our little apartment on the Upper East Slide.” Percy missed his mom, in the Newsela article It gave very good examples to how you can feel better when your friends or family lives far away “Feelings of sadness and disappointment may arise if dear friends live far away. However old- fashioned letter writing can be one way to reconnect.”  A positive relationship could help Percy with his health so Percy should spend more time with friends and families, and if he misses his mom, he could write more letters to his mom.

Overall, this was about how ADHD and Positive relationship impacted to Percy’s choices. ADHD is impacting Percy of how he makes choices in school, for example in the Newsela article it said, “These symptoms include fidgeting, difficulty playing quietly or waiting for a turn and blurting out answers in class.” That is some of the features of people that have ADHD, and in school Percy often starts blurting out answers in class and to other people, in page 5 Percy said, “ Will you shut up!?!?!?!”– It came out louder than I meant.” He was shouting at Nancy. Also, people that have ADHD like to walk outside, so Percy should also ask his teachers to let him go outside more often. A positive relationship could help Percy with his health, in page 32-33 Percy said, “My mother can make me feel good just by walking into the room.” and in the Newsela article researchers said, “According to research by psychologist Sheldon Cohen, college students who reported having strong relationships were half as likely to catch a common cold.” Sometimes Percy would get homesick, he could write some letters “Feelings of sadness and disappointment may arise if dear friends live far away. However old- fashioned letter writing can be one way to reconnect.”  If he missed his friends and family’s writing a letter could be a good way to reconnect with them. At last, ADHD and Positive relationship impacted to Percy’s choices.

Early Humans and Us

Early human and Us this is my Early human and Us Thinklink project for humanities. My topic is about early human language development, and how the developments affected us throughout history. This Thinglink would include a timeline, paragraph, worksites of where I researched my notes and pictures of how we communicate now and how we communicate before.

Basket Arcade Reflection

my biggest success was that we used our time wisely, and when it was time for the 4th-grade class to come we were ready. And they really enjoyed it.

My biggest obstacle was when we were building the cardboard arcade some part didn’t fit very well,  and I also think that our game was a little too big if we make it smaller it might make it easier for us.

Skills that I learned and developed was my cutting skills before I came to design my cutting skills wasn’t that good, I didn’t know how to cut the very straight lines, but after having design I was able to cut straight lines and make my own cardboard arcade game.

One thing I would like to change is the size of my game, and how stable it is because I noticed that when I was using it and carrying it around the bottom of the game was always feeling like it was gonna collapse, but it might also be that it was cardboard so it felt like collapsing.

One piece of advice I would give to a future student doing this project is that you should plan what you’re going to do each class, and don’t be to rush on your last class or something, and you don’t want to challenge yourself way too much you should pick a game that you’re able to make.
