The House You Pass on the Way- BookTalk

In this book, the author Jacqueline Woodson describes the importance of friendship and what it means to love someone. The main character Staggerlee lives in an African- American district with a white mother. She struggles finding a real friend that she can share her thoughts and feelings with after her friend Hazel stopped playing with her because of the things that happened in her family. But then she meets another girl called Trout, and she was the person that Staggerlee can share all her deepest thoughts with. After reading the book, our task was to find a theme statement that tells what the author is trying to tell the readers. I used evidence from the book to analyze the emotions and power changes of the characters, and the main conflicts they were going through.
