I’m reading the book “Genesis Begins Again”.  This story is about a thirteen-year-old African girl called Genesis. She lives with her mom and dad in a small rented house. Her dad’s alcoholic and addicted to gambling, many times, her mom was fighting to divorce because of that. She’s being bullied by American students in school, they joked and tease about how she’s poor and black. She’s really a shame and unconfident, both at school and home. Affected by these things, Genesis ends up believing that the only way to look nice is to straighten her hair like Americans and use makeup to lighten her skin. It all changed after they moved to a new place, where students in school don’t mind she’s colored or not. She made new friends and even passed the audition in school. After all the encouragement from her friends and family, she started believing that maybe black can do the same thing as white.
