The name of this book is Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. The book is about a man called Louie Zamperini, he grew up in an Italian family, his brother trained him to became a cross-country athlete, and Louie made a world record in the Berlin Olympics. He planned to attend the 1940 Tokyo Olympics, but it canceled because of the World War II. Louie became a bombardier of the US army, in a rescue mission, the plane’s engine died, the plane crash to the ocean and only three person did survive, include Louie. Louie and his friends spent 47 days floating on the ocean, until they were founded by Japanese boat. Louie was abused by many Japanese guards and eventually survived . When he came back to USA, he forgave those people who had insulted and humiliated him, and he get rid of the desire for revenge.

In this book, there’s a Japanese corporal called Musuhiro Watanabe, who born in a wealthy family and became a fervent patriot, he thought his privilege could let him be an officer of Japanese army, but he got rejected, and he was sent to manage pows camp. The bird (nick name of Musuhiro Watanabe) beat pows everyday, people who was in the camp called him a psychopath. After the World War II, he ran away to the countryside and died when he was 85.

In Louie’s childhood, he was an introvert person because in that time period, people have so much prejudice to the Italian, so he has been mistreated since he was in kindergarten. When he was in the middle school, he learned how to self defense, but it makes him became more and more violent.

When louie and his friends were still at the ocean, they need to find food and water, protect themselves against sharks and Japanese raids, and find opportunities to call for rescue. The reason that they did survive was because they will never gave up, if they gave up for doing something, they may die, so perseverance is the key to survive.

When Louie were missing, the US army report the death of Louie to his family. None of the family members accepted Louie’s death, they all believed Louie had a chance to survive. Few weeks after Louie was missing, Louie’s brother and his father had even planned for rescue him when the war was over. This event shows that no matter what happened, your family will always believes in you and stand by your side.
