[Tian Tian M.] Percy Jackson Final FINAL

How can Percy Make Better Choices for Himself and his Community?

“Am I a troubled kid? Yeah. You could say that.” Percy Jackson said in the first pages of the book. Percy doesn’t live a normal life of a god, middle schooler, or demigod. He has his problems with making good decisions that suit his life. Percy can make better choices for himself and his peers if he studies hard, and he tries to refocus more often.

Percy should study harder because it can impact other’s opinions about him. Percy isn’t the greatest is when it comes to school and getting great grades. Even Percy admits it himself when he complained, “But Mr. Brunner expected me to be as good as everybody else, despite the fact that I have dyslexia and attention deficit disorder and I had never made above a C– in my life. ”. Studying is important because it guides a path in the future. It determines future colleges, universities, and job. And, behaviour. Maybe if Percy studies harder, he wouldn’t have such a negative and fixed mindset, and having an open and positive mindset can open a gate of creativity and without the worries of that he has ADHD and dyslexia. He’s also been kicked out a lot. “A dyslexic, hyperactive boy with a D+ report card, kicked out of school for the sixth time in six years.”, it says. If he studies harder, and not get kicked out so much, maybe people approach him, and Percy could possibly have more friends. And good relationships can lead to a happier, longer life. And his peers could look at him as someone inspiring and motivated that was able to change his school life by just trying hard

Percy has ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) so Percy has a harder time focusing compared to the other students. Although for this reason he doesn’t have the ability to refocus easily, he doesn’t seem to want to focus either, or Percy just doesn’t know how to get those distractions out of his mind. Percy also seem to think negative thoughts, like how he was always afraid that Grover will get killed by the minotaur. Luckily, one tip to focus easier is to “Reframe Negative Thoughts”. “Negative thoughts make studying all but impossible. If you find yourself frequently repeating self-defeating thoughts, try reframing them into more positive statements” (Both quotes from “How to Focus on Studying” by Kelly Roell). If he tries to focus using advice and tips from others, he can pass the techniques to people who suffer from ADHD or are just struggling to focus and refocus.

Although Percy continues to fight his struggles with being a demigod, he is still protecting and supporting his peers and the gods. For Percy to make better choices that influence both himself and his community, he should study harder in school to improve his grades and find ways to focus so he can stay on task. This advice can be related to any human (or demigod) who need help with grades and focus.
