How can Percy control his emotions to create a better life?
Nowadays, everyone gains stress and it’s common to lose control and just flip your lid, so It is extremely important to learn how to manage/control emotions. Controlling emotions has always been a struggle for kids, teens, and even adults!
Percy Jackson is a kid in Yancy academy who has problems managing his feelings. This often gets him into troubles in school or field trips even if he doesn’t want to for example: “Will you shut up!?!?!?!?! It came louder than I meant” (pg 5). Even though he is protecting Grover from Nancy Bobofit, he can’t solve the problem correctly which leads him to troubles. His main problem might be that he’s too negative with things according to “Recognizing and Managing Emotions”, so he cannot be calm and really think about the consequences after he does something.
So how can we help Percy so that he can manage his emotions better? The best way is to let him notice his feelings and understand them. He has to know the indicators and when he’s going to flip his lid and to prevent it from happening. According to “Recognizing and Managing Emotions”, you HAVE to give your brain a chance to think before you decide or do something ‘stupid’. However, Percy really can think calmly to not make Gabe mad and to protect his mom in a safe way or else they’ll be in danger. This shows that it’s a good idea for Percy to talk to an adult instead of being isolated before raging since he can harness and change his emotions after having a conversation with his mom. Here’s a list of what he can do in order to manage his feelings:
1. Get out of negative thinking
2. Think before doing stuff
3. Talk with an adult or a friend that he trusts
In conclusion, as it’s mentioned earlier, it’s very important for Percy to talk with an adult so that he can get out of his negative thinking and become a master at managing emotions. This will help him overcome the consequences he will face in the future and maybe even change his life!
