Bob Martin

All of these photos are taken at a relatively low angle to empower the subject while amplifying the visual dynamics of their sport. As a sports photographer, Bob martin’s intention is to amplify the passion and power of the sport at the moment, in which everything is encompassed in a single frame. I am inspired to take photos that are captured from low perspectives while keeping the subject in motion to create images that are resonant and visually impactful, such as capturing a volleyball servis. All of the following photos were taken during intense scenarios; therefore, by incorporating expressive gestures of the subjects, the images convey a sense of conviction, passion, and positivity derived from the athletes. While the subject fits in the context of their sport, the photographer positions the subject in motion either in the middle or in the “rule of thirds,” drawing maximum attention from the viewer with the subject in focus.

State of intent

The title of this project is “Volleyball,” which highlights the positivity and passion of playing sports, presumably volleyball. I want my audience to feel passionate and enthusiastic about playing sports as well as confronting any adversities. I will get inspiration and develop my ideas by looking for photographs that share such passion and energy. The social issue that I am addressing is the cumulative stress we derive from every triviality, and this project aims to channel this stress into playing sports.
