I have chosen the photos above as my red photos because they best represent my passion and aspirations as a volleyball player. The photos above replicate scenes when I am actually playing on the court. Therefore, the photos, to some extent, narrate my experience when I played volleyball, ranging from the ecstatic moments to the struggles I confronted. Throughout this unit, I became more proficient in handling macro cameras as well as finding different angles for different purposes. From my preceding tasks, I have learned to consider photo compositions and framing in a more artistic and sophisticated manner. For example, during Street Photography, I became more innovative in my choice to frame different street scenes while having a more solid and deliberate target. If I had more chance, I would develop my lighting and framing skills to add depth to my photos.
Evaluation
All three photos are taken in the dome, therefore enhancing the relevance of the scenes, while there are possibly components of the photo that are distracting and redundant. However, I positioned the subject either in the middle or in the rule of thirds to draw attention. Moreover, every photo consists of the subject interacting with the ball; either the ball is placed against the subject or they are both placed in the middle. The strategic placement of the ball creates a harmonious composition that pictures a moment in a volleyball match, thus providing a more immersive perspective. In the third picture, the sense of obscurity derived from the intense movement creates a captivating image while manifesting an ambitious and aspirational mood. Staying too close to the subject can negatively reverse the effect of empowering the movements of the subject.
These photos aligns with my vision because they are both narrative and effective in sharing the passion and enthusiasm of playing sports through extending movements and interactions between the subject and the ball.
