I created this found poem and named it ‘the opposite’ because it is the opposite of the story.
In the story, the author “Langston Hughes” writes the story about a kind woman who helped the boy for no reason, -“Now, here, take this ten dollars and buy yourself some blue suede shoes”- (paragraph 42) and the article also didn’t show any internal conflicts the woman might have, so I created this found poem that showed what if the woman is a psychopath killer instead of a kind, fantasy, nice old lady.
The first conflict that appeared in the story is nigher should Roger stole the Woman’s pack book, but the stories showed none of the stories had should any concerns or worries about the woman.
“nor did she watch her purse which she left behind her on the day-bed. But the boy took care to sit on the far side of the room where he thought she could easily see him out of the corner of her eye if she wanted to. He did not trust the woman not to trust him. And he did not want to be mistrusted now.” (paragraph 36)
“The door was open. He could make a dash for it down the hall. He could run, run, run, run, run!” (paragraph 32)
Another reason why I created this poem is that the story said “he never saw her again”(paragraph 44) at last, but I start to wonder, ‘why didn’t the boy never see her again since the boy knows where the woman’s house was?’ and I beganna to think ‘maybe the boy of the woman is dead somehow, so I used those thoughts and created this poem…
I chose the picture of that ghost likely thing because I think what if the true face behind the woman is like a devil, a demon inside the kindness in the story.
