Artist final reflection (Identity)

Final reflection: The overall choice is a fair choice for me, while most of my photos are mostly matched with the chosen artist’s style. In one of the photos, where I am deciding to take a photo of a side of my subject’s face, where the photo turned out that my subject seemed to be twisted at last. I thought that can be some of my creativity and eventually put it into my final choices of pictures.

Statement of Intent (Identity)

The title of this project is students that is stressed about study. My model will be a student that suffer stress a lot, etc. The photos will especially highlight the stress they have. While in modern society, students tend to get more pressure as their age grow, but some of their parents doesn’t realize that and thought the student don’t have that much pressure. However, that is not true, in my perspective, they’re way more stressed than the parents thought. Thus, some of the photos will be taken in ways that can completely reveal their identity. This may reveal their identity of their role in society, which also creates the effect of stress. I want my audience to feel the gratefulness of their hard working and performance. I will start to get inspiration from my friend, while filtering a choice of people, but also gaining inspiration.

Inspiration (Identity)

My chosen photographer during the identity unit is Tina Barney. Tina Barney mainly payed extra focus on people’s emotion on their faces and their psychological emotions on their faces. She uses family in Rhode Island as subjects in these photos, and she has shot these scenes of their family being busy in a sudden frame. Where her inner message of these photos mainly focused on recording her busy family, and how her family treated life and introduced their family to the world. Tina Barney mainly focused on the coloring of photos. Most of her photos contains a variety of colors, that creates a fulfilling sight for the audience. I decided Tina Barney as my selection because I felt that expressing identity from daily photos are an unique way to display, and it was a way that is quite uncommon among photographers. I would like to try out using different colors as one of my techniques when taking “Identity” photos This photographer represent my chosen subject because the purpose and the attitude among me and Tina Barney is similar. While Tina Barney and I both wants to express emotion from their photos.

Final Pictures

Image 1: Depressed

This photo shows a student staring at these art piece with a depressing emotion, this connects with the truth that students currently are overstressed. This is related to my intent because this is related to the stress on modern students, and it reveals the stress feeling through the dark scene and the dreadful emotion.

Image 2:Twisted Mirror

This photo shows a twisted face of a student. From this picture, the student shows an emotion that is mediocre, but the student’s face got completely twisted. This satirize with the current environment that the students suffer, while students receiving more pressure from peer and grades. This is related to my intent beacuse this is related to the stress on modern students, and it reveals the stress feeling through the twisted mirror from the fountain.

Image 3: Cover

This photo shows a student felling asleep in front of a book. This shows the pressure that a current student need to suffer, and how a student is suffering during their academic years. This is related to my intent because this is related to the stress on modern students, this reveals by creating the scene of a student felling asleep in front of a book.

Experiments

I had experimented different ideas, with a combination of my actual experience during school life. I tried to use different lighting (by altering iso and shutter speed), and different angles to take pictures of my model. Beside, I tried to use different poses that it can reveal this topic clearly.

Portrait photos

Identity post 1 (introduction)

Portraits are pictures of a single person that might be in emotion to aim for realistic. Portraits are mainly displayed in art pieces and photographs differently.

Making a good portrait needs a high requirement (even there isn’t a guaranteed formula for taking portraits), however, there was still ways to improve the quality of a portrait.

-Interact: communication with the model/individual

-Revealing character: details or items that can represent the subject (character) should be photographed with the subject.

-Quality light and shadows

-Be more close and know information about the subject/model/character

-Sharp eyes: Focus on the eyes on a portrait

-Catchlight: Guides the direction of light

-Centered Iris: Centering the eyes

-Eyes in the upper third

-Out of focus and uncluttered background

-Dominant eye in the center of a photo

-Change of angle
