In this unit, we designed our own speakers and learned about aesthetics.

The process- Inspiration & aesthetic

My speaker is inspired by minimalist and Mid-century modern.

Minimalist

This aesthetic is identified with clean spaces, minimal distractions, and neutral colors. When you look at it, you feel a zen-like calmness, spacious feeling.

Mid-century modern

This aesthetic usually has…

  1. long clean lines (usually straight but sometimes curved)
  2. Does not have lots of decorations
  3. It looks chunky and oversized (with small support)
  4. Wood

I used both aesthetics, so my speaker is a combination of both- Justification

For minimalist, I used the color white to represent the clean spacious and simple feeling, and also using the most simple design with curved and mostly soft lines. my speaker also doesn’t have any decorations other than the little frame in the front and back.

For Mid-century modern, I used the small tiny legs to make it look as chunky and oversized as possible. Also making the lines curved and sometimes straight to emphasize this aesthetic. I included a little frame at the very front because I wanted the legs to really pop out and emphasize the mid-century modern look.
