Artist statement

Emily Pun (2009 Beijing)

As an photographer I like to show the elements that connects with my everyday life. Tatsuya Tanaka uses small object to make scenes that we see in our everyday life. The object in the scene I chose is a donkey keychain I had for years. I took this photograph using my moms old camera for a memory like feeling. The donkey is tied up against from the neck the book the vibrant colors of the donkey creates a contrast between the book. The texture contrast between the furry donkey and the cloudy surface of the book shows the dimension on this photo. The lighting in this photo creates a circle like shape that highlights the expression of the donkey. I used everyday objects to create this composition of the scene.

Photography

Rule of thirds:

 – I hung the object on the left on the doorknob.

-Contrast in the color and the texture

– Sad lonely feeling

-I have placed the Object on the sculpture on the left side of the frame.

-Contrast of the color

Leading lines:

– I used the scanner as a leading line toward the donkey.

-There is a texture contrast between the furry donkey and the shiny table.

-The white walls creates an intercepting point where the line meets and that is where I chose to put my donkey.

-There is a contrast in color.

Symmetry and patterns:

– I used the pattern of the leaves to create a interesting and weird composition between the donkey and where it is.

-In this photo I used the repetition of the different drinks and in the middle there is the donkey.

Framing:

– In this photo I used framing by the boxes in the nurse office this almost creates a repressive feeling of sickness.

– In this photo I used the pockets from my jeans for a frame. In this photo it almost looks like My pocket is his blanket while he’s taking a nap.

Depth of field:

– In this photo I chose to create this lonely feeling by only focusing on the donkey to make the rest of the background feel disconnected.

– In this photo I have chosen to focus on the scarf for the oppression feeling.

Negative space:

-In this photo I used negative space of the staircase to create a abnormal environment.

-The space I left empty are the white walls it creates a “V” shape and in between there is the donkey.

Balance:

– I chose to place the donkey in the fake models head. This creates a interesting composition in terms of visual balance.

– I created visual balance by Leaving some empty spaces and making the focus of the objective clear.

Perspective:

– In this photo I chose my own perspective showing the donkey hanging from my pants.

-The perspective show the interesting composition of the is flag, hand of the terra-cotta warrior’s hand and also the donkey.

A Bloody Struggle Through Land Reform

Hi, I’m Francisco Carrillo I grew up with the haciendas. My father owned lots of land and slaves. After my father passed away I started to work on my own. During the revolution my beliefs really changed. Is it really good to only let the rich benefit? Is it fair to the lower class? I lived through this crazy time period. If you want to know what happened read my journal to find out.

After this revolution the adjustments are made dictatorship ended and they established a constitutional republic. Not only that but they also got land reform for the peasants. There are also problems that remained such as the majority of the population is still poor.

After the revolution we got land reform and we got rid of the dictator, we know whats good for us and our country. The gap between social classes starts to grow closer. Even though the haciendas loss lots of land but when I saw the smile of their faces I knew poverty isn’t what we want and everyone wants to be treated equally.

A bloody struggle for equal land and economics

This is the Mexican revolution in plain english by Emily, Adrian and Samuel. This revolution has begun by a uprising against the cruel dictator Porforio Díaz. People were unhappy about the unequal distribution of land and economics. The gap between social classes grew by time. That made the mexicans really upset. This revolution has officially started when Madero starts to run against Porfirio Díaz. There are Battles throughout the revolution about 3 million tragic deaths during this revolution. It was a bloody struggle during the early nineteen hundreds. There were revolutionaries such as Francisco Madero, Pascual Orozco, Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata. They have sacrificed their lives for this revolution, after the revolution the mexicans got universal education, labor rights, land reform and the nationalization of some industries. They have been through this tough time period for their plans finally most of them has came true. They didn’t sacrifice for nothing. This has come to a end when Obrégon came to presidency.
