Part 1; Aaron Siskind Inspiration:

  • line
  • form
  • texture
  • shape
  • size

All of his artwork uses black and white and they portray abstraction of details. These elements represent that maybe Aaron Siskind likes to capture details without colors. But uses different strategies to make the photos interesting. I really like this kind of style of black-and-white pictures. They show the variation of shadow and different forms of an object. Little details of an object or landscape interest me more because I like how these kinds of photos can use the lenses of the camera to create different depths of an object.

Part 2:

I chose this picture in particular because it interests me that I wonder how he took this photo. It is surprising that it looks like it’s underground because of the dirt and grasses, but there’s a person standing in the middle. This photo uses value because it shows the contrast of colors (dark and light), which makes the person stand out in the photo. I think this photo is important because it uses various strategies to make it interesting and the photo is really different from other photos I’ve seen. Aaron Siskind emphasizes the emotion and his definition of the world to show lines and textures. I like black and white pictures and this photo shows me how black and white pictures could be more showing of depth and form of the photo. It inspires me to want to try to take photos like this.
