Street Photography – Inspiration Artist (Masashi Wakui)

Masashi was chosen as an artist for my inspiration because he primarily focuses on photography of vintage street markets, such as photographs of Japanese streets with numerous stores on the sides of the road, with a combination of warm and cold light. There are also many instances in his photography where, rather than using the subject as the main focus of the photograph, he focuses on making the background interesting with many details, and with his unique use of lighting (natural lighting), he allows the audience to focus on the detail and work he put into the background rather than the subject. I enjoy this artstyle because I believe the use of background allows the photography to tell a much more efficient story than simply focusing on the subject.

In the first picture The artist uses warm lighting to deviate the subject from the background, with the subject being that of cold colors, this creates a contrast that i intend to use in my photographs.

in the second photograph, the artist uses cold lighting, with heavy implications in the sky. there are also a large appearance of lights and street lighting which continues to add more character to the image.
