Rivalry of the Revolution

Diego Sanchez is already joining the army at 21. After starting so early in his life, everything is so new to him, he survives the revolution, however it comes with a price. Diego experiences life threatening moments, making sacrifices to keep his family safe and happy. After 10 years of going through the revolution, Diego realizes that having revolutions isn’t always necessary, it causes so much pain and loss. It can be beneficial in some ways but when witnessing death and blood, Diego sees that everything would’ve been so much better if it were just left the way it was. Even though he thinks this, Diego strongly disagrees with the idea of dictatorship. He wants the lives of the civilians to be equal between people in power and civilians.

The Mexican Revolution lasted for 10 years, from 1910-1920. Over these 10 years, the position for president of Mexico kept on shifting, battle after battle happened and president after president came and went. The revolution started out with a dictatorship ruled by Porfirio Diaz, he prevented others from becoming president and didn’t do anything to benefit the citizens. The revolution ended in 1920 when Alvaro Obregon got elected and there was peace. However, throughout the revolution the lives of the citizens didn’t change, the struggle to keep a healthy and peaceful life didn’t stop. Many of the civilians joined uprisings to try and improve their lives, even if it meant dying in the process.

Breaking the Unbroken

The book Unbroken was written by Laura Hillenbrand. It is based off a true story of Louie Zamperini. Taking place in the 1940’s.

Unbroken is a book about a troublemaker boy who grows to become one of the fastest Olympic  runners in the world, but before he reached his absolute best, he had to join the air force during WWII. While on a rescue mission his plane crashed and he had to survive in the Pacific ocean with very limited resources. After a few months, the remainder of the crew ended up floating into Japan where Louie gets taken to multiple POW (Prisoner of War) camps where he got beaten, abused, starved, targeted, and more.

Beliefs of Beauty or Betrayal?

Humanism Infographic

My infographic is about the beliefs of humanism,  how they believed that everyone should be educated but retain their beliefs with the catholic church.

They wanted their people to be themselves, a great individual.  They saw potential in their people.

Although they wanted their people to be great, they wanted their own beliefs (no religious faith or worship)this is called secularism.

The education that was used in humanism was from ancient times, humanities were what they taught.

The found poem above is from the short story “Button Button” by Richard Matheson. This poem comes from one of the disagreements/ fights they had. In the story, a husband and wife get a package with a button in it, the husband isn’t interested at all in the button but the wife is very curious about it. They have multiple disagreements about the button which leads to the wife getting very annoyed and disobeying her husband.

Arthur looked up from his dinner, ” I don’t understand you”                                                                                                                                                                      “What does that mean?”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   “Let it go,” He told her.

This is a character vs character (External) conflict because the couple keeps on having disagreements thorough out the story. However, in my found poem, it is more character vs self (Internal) because I focused on how she’s trying to stop herself from pushing the button and disobeying her husband which is the internal conflict she has in the story. In the background, I drew buttons because the story is mainly about buttons: The story is called “Button Button” the disagreements are about the button, and the wife has trouble not pressing the button, therefore I drew buttons as the background.

Internal & External conflict
