Science, Design, Engineering: Cup Insulator Challenge

CUP CHALLENGE

Q. Explain the problem you were trying to solve

A. We were trying to solve the problem of bad cup insulation.

Q. Explain your process for solving this problem

A. First, my partner and I made separate drawings, and then we combined the two ideas. Next, we made a prototype out of paper, and then finally we made our finishing product to be tested.

Q. CER- To practice writing a CER, write one regarding the Cup Insulator

A. We noticed that adding a cap improves the insulation. For instance, when we added adjusted the cap in the experiment, we noticed that the heat level jumped up. And as the thermometer “kicked” the cap off, we noticed that the heat level decreased. This is because the exposed opening of the cup gives off a lot of heat, and by blocking that, we can keep more heart in.

Q. What are you proud of? What would you do differently?

A. I am proud that because our functionality is really good. It served as an insulator, a waterproof, crash-proof, relaxing device that goes anywhere with you. If I got another chance, I would work more on aesthetics.
