Maximilian Streich

Maximilian Streich – A German photographer who loves to capture the reflections on the ground when it rains, and good at using light and color to create a romantic and mysterious atmosphere in his works.

  • The photograph shows a woman standing near a red scooter, talking on her phone. Her face is partially obscured by the scooter’s rear – view mirror, which reflects a view of green foliage.
  • The eye is drawn to the rear – view mirror. The reflection of the greenery in the mirror creates an interesting visual contrast with the woman and the red scooter, and the fact that it covers her face makes it a focal point.
  • The use of the mirror reflection adds a layer of depth and mystery, as we can’t fully see the woman’s face. The contrast between the vibrant red of the scooter, the green of the foliage, and the pattern on the woman’s dress is visually appealing.
  • Composition:  – Framing: The mirror acts as a frame within the image, drawing attention to the reflected foliage. – The rule of thirds: The woman and the mirror are positioned in the middle, the red scooter place at the bottom and the green leave placed on the top.
  • Light: The use of light in the photo appear to be natural, and the light comes out to be soft, no harsh shadow.
  • Art element: Line – The lines of the scooter, as the handlebars point to the mirror and the face of women. Shape – The circular shape of the mirror contrasts with the angular shapes of the scooter and the woman’s body. Texture – The smooth surface of the scooter, the fabric texture of the woman’s dress, and the leafy texture of the foliage in the reflection can all be perceived.
  • Camera Focus: The camera is focused on the mirror and the woman. The background is slightly out of focus, which helps to draw attention to the main elements.
  • Aperture: A shallow depth of field has been used. The background is blurred, while the woman and the mirror are in relatively sharp focus. The line of the scooter also create a depth as the mirror point toward the women.

How Does the image inspire?

This image has inspired me in multiple aspects. The reflection as a central visual element has opened my eyes to the potential of using reflecting on mirror in new ways and how people could be the main element in the photo.  It added an element of mystery and make me engage more deeply in the image, trying to piece together the story. This help me to think about how can I do this to show the mystery I want to present in my photo. The use of small mirror is really amazing, as it do not take up majority space but reflect the environment. This make me want to try to use more shallow and depth in the photo to create this atmosphere and story in my photo.
