Blood, Wars, and Guns Seized the Ten Tragic Years

Call me Gabriel. You might think of me as a typical wealthy landowner who is strongly against the Mexican Revolution. However, I was young and naïve back then. Over these years, I have grown, and my perception of this revolution has changed. Today I will unveil my story: a journey of self-reflection and illumination that started with the encounter of a little boy.

After the revolution ended, distinct situations stayed the same but many changed by a lot. More than one million people were killed during the revolution, and an abundance of citizens sacrificed their lives in order to protest. The Mexican Revolution ended the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz, and people aren’t allowed to run for a second term in their presidency. Along with these changes, the Mexican Revolution brought human rights, universal education, and land reform to the country and expanded it towards the world.

Blood! Wars! Dictatorship…

Conflicts: Mexican Revolution

The Mexican revolution, a devastating yet dominant period of history throughout 1910-1920, was a time of battling, hijacking places, robbing people, and also overthrowing presidents. The main cause of this revolution was to overthrow president Porfirio Díaz, then leading into distinct events which eventually caused more bombardment and conventions throughout the country. Fortunately, the Mexican revolution ended with prosperity and peace after ten years of savage civil war.

Please enjoy our common craft style video retelling the most important parts of the Mexican revolution. Thank you!

My Design Process

In November, I started with this idea of designing a snowflake in a circle, kind of like a snow-bulb. I started off having issues with Fusion, but soon I got help from my friend and my teachers. The process of tracing the snowflake out was pretty complicated, because after I had done tracing it, I noticed that there were many layers of sketches on it, so I had to restart and delete them all again. Then, Ms. Kim gave me a good suggestion about editing the tracing lines from thin to thick, so when it is laser cutting it would be more stable and I can design a better project. I feel like this project was successful except that I wasn’t able to laser-cut in the last class of the semester. I hope I will have time to laser-cut when Chinese New Year break ends! Overall, I had fun designing this lamp and I feel like the decisions done were very well implemented.

The first four photos are the ones I made when I first started using fusion. The last photo is my final design. Learning how to use fusion was not easy for me, with all the tools and the buttons you need to click and move. But since my friend is a very good helper, she taught me how to get through these challenges and that’s how I improved. I feel that the circular pattern tool is very cool, because it provides a lot of convenience when you are trying to create a thing that has a pattern and repeats again and again. In summary, I believe that I conquered many challenges by myself, but also gained support from my friend and teacher.

Some tips I would give for the next students taking this course is that they can watch the tutorial video of how to use fusion several times so they can get the idea quickly of how to control this app. I think Ms. Kim is a wonderful teacher that gives very good advice, but I hope that maybe she could gather some of the incoming students’ problems while using fusion and provide the whole class with an answer. I think this design course is challenging but very exciting, I hope to get to do more design projects!

Thank you for reading my blog post, I hope you enjoyed it! Design is awesome 🙂

The Quiet Power of Introverts

Quiet Power presents the strengths of introverts and their unique ways of handling situations. This book is a mixture of different stories about introverts from divergent countries and how they act in school, work, and with their family. Susan Cain, the author of this book, is an introvert herself and provides the readers with a variety of information about people like her. Through the experiences of many young adults, people will know more about introverts and their thoughts. Introverted people are crucial and helpful to the society, so everyone should treat them with respect just as how they treat extroverts. Quiet people have many great opinions on the world, it is just important for everyone to acknowledge each other’s thoughts. If you want to know more about introverts, you can read this book!

This is my notebook page from the first day of class. We were investigating the central idea and the theme of our reading-club books. My first idea of Quiet Power is that introverts should be honored as well as different kinds of people. Even though introverts are usually shy and quiet, they have great ideas in their minds that can influence the society.

This is my notebook page from day 4. We were digging deep into how the author show the ways introverts act in school.

This is my notebook page from day 5 of class. We were doing a group speech/debate about the reason why introverts are going to become more successful in the society. I have two evidence supporting my reason which deliberately conveys the message that there are many introverts who achieved great things, such as Rosa Parks.

Thank you for reading my blog post! If you are interested in this book, I recommend you to read it because either you will know more about yourself or you will know more about people who are completely different from you.

Design project!

Movie on 2022-10-12 at 5.50 PM

During our brainstorm, I came up with two ideas and my partner (Michelle) came up with two ideas. One of my ideas was a clipper for Chinese sandwiches/burgers, the other one a spoon for eating watermelon. I got both of my ideas from daily life because that’s what I had gone through went I ate these foods during summer break. Michelle’s ideas were a spoon for people with the Parkinson disease, and an automatic twirler fork for people eating spaghetti. She also got these ideas from daily life, because her grandfather is a person with the Parkinson disease, and she saw people eating spaghetti with tomato sauce all over their face.

Most of my feedback from the students for the brainstorm and sketch are not very friendly, therefore we did not use it. For example, one of our feedback based on one of our drawings said “Nice boat”. This feedback cannot be applied firstly because it is an unkind discrimination to the drawing even though the drawing is quite easy to be misunderstood. Instead, the student could write this comment as a wish saying “It would be easier to understand if you sketched out a clearer drawing or provided a clearer idea “Secondly, this feedback cannot be applied because it does not clearly point out what we did appropriately and what is our insufficient. On the other hand, we noticed that our idea might be a bit immature, causing the inaccuracy within our sketches.

The strengths of our design is that it is easy to make, light weighted, and useful in our lives, some weaknesses of it is that it might be pretty easy to break.

“She might just as well hit him with a steel club”

The found poem above was taken from page 4 of the story “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl. It shows the man versus man conflict between Mary, the protagonist, and her husband Sam. In the climax of the story, this conflict illustrates Mary’s anger towards Sam wanting to leave her and how Mary can’t hold her frustration anymore. In this passage, Mary is resembled as a furious and uncontrollable woman that ended her husband’s life. In the story Mary’s actions reveal that she was very calm about killing Sam as “She sat down before the mirror, tidied up her hair, touched up her lips and face. She tried a smile.” (Dahl 4) This again characterizes the characteristics of Mary in this passage. In the end, the police believed that Mary was innocent and she luckily faked it.

Design- Bluetooth Speaker

This is the bluetooth speaker I designed in Design class. It uses the design aesthetic of vintage, and I painted it pink/purple. I hope you enjoy my poster and my blog! 🙂

One thing I struggled during working was trying to put the chip in the right place where the person using the speaker can easily access it. After I taped it onto the speaker, the chip’s position was more easy to be accessed.

I am proud of how the glue is not leaking out of the speaker and that it looks clean. I also like the color of the speaker, because I designed the color and I think that I will use this color later while designing.

If I could change something about my product I would make it smaller so it would be easier to hold and it would match the style of vintage more.

Thank you for watching my blog, I hope you like this speaker!
