In November, I started with this idea of designing a snowflake in a circle, kind of like a snow-bulb. I started off having issues with Fusion, but soon I got help from my friend and my teachers. The process of tracing the snowflake out was pretty complicated, because after I had done tracing it, I noticed that there were many layers of sketches on it, so I had to restart and delete them all again. Then, Ms. Kim gave me a good suggestion about editing the tracing lines from thin to thick, so when it is laser cutting it would be more stable and I can design a better project. I feel like this project was successful except that I wasn’t able to laser-cut in the last class of the semester. I hope I will have time to laser-cut when Chinese New Year break ends! Overall, I had fun designing this lamp and I feel like the decisions done were very well implemented.
The first four photos are the ones I made when I first started using fusion. The last photo is my final design. Learning how to use fusion was not easy for me, with all the tools and the buttons you need to click and move. But since my friend is a very good helper, she taught me how to get through these challenges and that’s how I improved. I feel that the circular pattern tool is very cool, because it provides a lot of convenience when you are trying to create a thing that has a pattern and repeats again and again. In summary, I believe that I conquered many challenges by myself, but also gained support from my friend and teacher.
Some tips I would give for the next students taking this course is that they can watch the tutorial video of how to use fusion several times so they can get the idea quickly of how to control this app. I think Ms. Kim is a wonderful teacher that gives very good advice, but I hope that maybe she could gather some of the incoming students’ problems while using fusion and provide the whole class with an answer. I think this design course is challenging but very exciting, I hope to get to do more design projects!
Thank you for reading my blog post, I hope you enjoyed it! Design is awesome 🙂
